“There was something really special about Jane. I adored her,” declared “America’s Got Talent” judge Simon Cowell during the July 5 episode that looked back at the Top 15 “AGT” Golden Buzzers of all time. He was referring to Jane Marczewski, known professionally as Nightbirde, who earned the #1 spot on his list. Nightbirde received the coveted honor during the 2021 season thanks to her original song “It’s Okay” about living with cancer. The singer-songwriter later withdrew from the competition due to health complications and passed away six months later at age 31.
Simon broke down while re-watching her Golden Buzzer moment with host Terry Crews. “You know, it’s difficult, I actually haven’t been able to watch this” video since Nightbirde died, the British judge confessed with teary eyes.

America’s Got Talent fan-favorite Jane Marczewski has passed away. The singer, who used the stage name Nightbirde, died at the age of 31 after battling cancer on Sunday, TMZ reports. Following news of her passing, AGT judge Howie Mandel paid tribute to the singer from Ohio. She “was such a bright inspirational light in all our lives,” he wrote on Twitter. “We must continue to live and learn from her words and lyrics. As much as I feel horribly about her passing I feel lucky to to have met, heard and known her.” Viewers met Nightbirde in Season 16 of the NBC competition series, which aired in summer 2021. Judge Simon Cowell hit the Golden Buzzer for her following her performance of an original song, “It’s Ok.” She then withdrew in August 2021. The singer had survived breast cancer, but then the cancer metastasized to her lungs, spine, and liver. “Sharing my heart...

The 16th season of “America’s Got Talent” officially entered the final stage of competition — the live shows — on Tuesday, August 10. For three weeks, three groups of 12 performed in the quarterfinals for America’s votes. Now the “AGT” 2021 cycle is in the midst of the two-week semifinals round, with 11 acts taking the stage both weeks at the Dolby Theatre. The Season 16 finale is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14 (performance show) and Wednesday, September 15 (results show).
The Top 36 quarterfinalists, chosen by the judges in secret, performed on Tuesday nights for three weeks. America voted for their favorite contestants each time, and then seven acts from each group advanced to the semifinals. That left 21 acts still in the competition, with the judges — Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara — then picking Beyond Belief Dance Company as their wildcard to complete the Top 22.

On August 2, “America’s Got Talent” fans were saddened to learn that Nightbirde, Simon Cowell‘s Golden Buzzer and one of the front-runners to win Season 16, had to withdraw from the competition because of her battle with cancer. “Since my audition, my health has taken a turn for the worse and the fight with cancer is demanding all of my energy and attention,” she wrote at the time. “I am so sad to announce that I won’t be able to continue forward on this season.” Since the “AGT” producers had already planned on Nightbirde taking up one of the Top 36 live show performances, they had a decision to make: leave her spot open or fill it with a wildcard? They chose the latter.
Two weeks ago, “AGT: America’s Wildcard” aired on the Peacock network, with five also-rans duking it out for viewers’ votes. They were: singer Dylan Zangwill, magician Patrick Kun,...

The ultimate “America’s Got Talent” honor is rarely bestowed. But when it is, there’s few things as thrilling in all of reality-competition television. Here, we break down each Golden Buzzer act from the show’s 16th season.
Northwell Health Nurse Choir (June 1)
What makes this choir of 18 from New York so special is that they’re all frontline nurses. “The hardest part was seeing these patients alone. They couldn’t have their families with them, so we stepped in as their family,” one of its members said.
Taking the stage, nurse Winnie Mele said, “We know that there is a lot of us out there that are still hurting, and we’re hoping to just shoot out some joy and some love, and to let them know that we found our resilience — and we’re hoping that they do as well.”

Nightbirde may not be competing on “America’s Got Talent” this season, but on Wednesday night, she made a virtual appearance on the show once more, and her message of hope nearly brought judge Simon Cowell to tears.
Jane Marczewski, who performs under the stage name Nightbirde, went viral for scoring a Golden Buzzer from Cowell, but unfortunately had to drop out of the competition last week to focus on her health as she battles cancer. During an appearance on Chris Cuomo’s show on CNN on August 4, Nightbirde revealed that “my liver right now is mostly cancer. More cancer than liver in there right now.”
“But like I said, I’m planning my future, not my legacy. Some people would call that blind denial. I prefer to call it rebellious hope. And I’m not stopping anytime soon,” she added.

“America’s Got Talent” found us a new Season 16 contestant to love Tuesday with the introduction of Dylan Zangwill, a 14-year-old boy who has an impressive set of pipes. The teen competitor used his voice to channel Freddie Mercury in an unbelievable rendition of Queen’s “Somebody to Love.”
Dylan, who is from Exton, Pennsylvania, played the piano and sang during his performance of the classic Queen track for “AGT” judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel and host Terry Crews.
It only took until the very first high note in the song (around the 1:10 mark) for the audience to begin to cheer as Zangwill’s Mercury-like energy became apparent.
Though we could barely stand on our feet when Dylan was done, he managed to get three of the judges up on theirs and rallied the audience for a standing ovation, too.
