Juliette Yu-Ming is a visual artist and dancer, born in Singapore and
based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil since 2010. After studying anthropology
and starting a career in development and humanitarian aid, she
discovered her passion for the moving image, first through documentary
filmmaking then by combining it with other art forms. Having danced
Butoh for several years, Juliette uses her corporal expression to
create performance-based video-art, video-dance and
video-installations. Her experience living in over ten countries, from
rural India and Nepal, tsunami-stricken provinces of Indonesia and
remote indigenous villages in Brazil, to globalized cities like London,
Paris and Singapore, has made her grapple with questions of
displacement, uprootedness and our cultural multiplicities in a
postmodern world. It is these very questions that she explores in her
work.
