Cynthia grew up in Washington, DC, and attended Harvard University where she graduated magna cum laude in East Asian Studies. She studied in Taiwan, became an East West Center Fellow in Honolulu, Hawaii, and worked in San Francisco and Beijing. She lives in Palo Alto, CA, and is the author of seven books, including Operation Marriage (2014), directed by Quentin Lee.
Her other written works include "It's Who You Know," "Almond Cookies and Dragon Well Tea," "A Is for Asia," "A Is for the Americas" (co-authored with Terri de la Pena), "Amelia to Zora: 26 Women Who Changed the World," and "Akira to Zoltan: 26 Men Who Changed the World." Cynthia is passionate about marriage equality, diversity, and social networking. She is married and has two children. Her works have been translated into Chinese, French, Spanish, and Korean.
