Patricia Schaefer-Röder

Patricia Schaefer Röder is a writer and literary translator born and raised in Venezuela. She is the daughter of German immigrants and speaks English, Spanish, and German. Her screenwriting credits include the documentary short Broken Palace (2014).
Schaefer Röder studied at the Central University in Venezuela, where she graduated in Biology and published her first essays. She lived in Heidelberg, Germany between 1994 and 1995. In 1995 she moved to New York City, where she became a writer and translator, and created her own translation company, Scriba NYC Integrated Language Solutions. In 2004, Schaefer Röder moved to Puerto Rico with her husband and two children. She has since published two of her own anthologies: Yara y otras historias (2010), and Siglema 575: poesía minimalista (2014), the second of which is composed of minimalistic poetry written in a format Schaefer Röder has developed herself. In addition, Schaefer Röder has also created the Healing Through Writing workshop for survivors of domestic violence or gender abuse. Her written works and community services have gained her numerous literary awards and recognition.
Schaefer Röder wrote Las extinciones de los dinosaurios and Jacinto Convit, documentaries aired by Discovery Channel Latin America in 1997. She co-wrote the Spanish version of Contacto con los yanomami in 1995, and she also worked as a content and script consultant in many other projects for the same company.
In 2014, Schaefer Röder co-wrote the script for the Canadian short film Broken Palace (directed by Ross Munro), about the disintegration of the classic movie-going experience and the vintage buildings it took place in. The film was released in September that year in select theaters and has since been featured at the 2014 Vancouver International Film Festival in Canada and the 2015 Fine Arts International Film Festival in Puerto Rico, among others.
