You can’t believe everything you hear on TV — not even (or perhaps especially) when it’s packaged in flannel-shirt wrapping paper, a folksy Oklahoma-accent and a corporate edict to keep the 18-49 demo rating above 3 million.
Which is why I didn’t let myself get angry or dismayed by Blake Shelton’s ridiculous exaggeration during The Voice‘s Top 10 performance episode on Monday: “This is the best live show I have ever seen in seven seasons.”

After last night's final performances, Team Usher's Josh Kaufman was declared the winner of season 6 of The Voice, beating out Team Adam Levine's Christina Grimmie and Team Blake Shelton's Jake Worthington.
At the top of the show, Carson Daly announced that there was a glitch with the iTunes charts. Noticably missing from the Top 10 yesterday was Josh Kaufman’s cover of Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain.” To ensure fairness, all of the iTunes downloads that were supposed to count as votes for the finalists were taken out of the final tally – meaning only online voting, calls, etc. counted as votes. According to Carson, taking the iTunes downloads out of the final tally did not affect the outcome. In other news, Adam publicly announced that he would sign Christina Grimmie to his record label after the show.

With just one week to go until the finale, the Top Five artists on The Voice learned their fate Tuesday in a semifinal elimination that had the male contestants celebrating and the female singers forced to perform one more time for the last Twitter instant save of the season.

The decision had coach Blake Shelton beaming – and probably helped him forget about the pile of manure Adam Levine poured on his precious truck the previous evening.

Each artist sang twice on Monday night’s Semi-Finals of The Voice, with Team Usher's Josh Kaufman delivering two showstopping performances and Usher performing his new single "Good Kisser."
First up is Kristen Merlin, the last remaining member of Team Shakira and the resident country queen (after Audra McLaughlin was sent home last week). For her first song, Kristen chose Miranda Lambert’s “Gunpowder and Lead,” which was dedicated to her friends and her hometown, and her girlfriend who has been out to La to support her. It’s a hell of a performance, that’s for sure. Kristen hits it out of the park with a defining performance. Kristen looks comfortable on stage, and the song allows her to enjoy herself. Adam Levine complimented her onstage growth, but the real compliment came from Blake Shelton, who is married to Miranda Lambert, and is the authority on all things country.

The Voice said goodbye to Sisaundra Lewis, Audra McLaughlin and Delvin Choice on Tuesday night in a shocking live elimination.
The Voice is slowly inching towards the finish line and the competition said goodbye to three artists this week to narrow it down to a Top 5. But first, Kristen Merlin, Audra, Kat Perkins and Jake Worthington performed The Band Perry’s “Chainsaw.” The country tune was a fun way to kick off the night, and mixed up various Team members, providing the show with a nice change from the usual Team performances.
Josh Kaufman is the first artist declared safe, no surprise, and is followed by Shakira’s last remaining artist, Kristen Merlin. Shakira was incredibly happy when she heard Carson Daly call Kristen’s name, jumping up and then stopping herself for a moment to make sure it was, indeed, Kristen who was declared safe to sing another day.

The Voice narrowed down its contestants to a Top 8, with Tess Boyer and Bria Kelly getting the boot and Kat Perkins receiving the #VoiceSave in this week’s live eliminations.

Team Usher kicked off the night with a group performance. Usher, Bria Kelly and Josh Kaufman sang Lenny Kravitz’s “Always on the Run.”

The Voice narrowed down the field to a Top 10, and Dani Moz, Tj Wilkins and Tess Boyer ended up in the bottom three in the first live eliminations.
Team Adam was the first team to perform together: Delvin Choice, Kat Perkins and Christina Grimmie performed “Sledgehammer” with their coach Adam Levine.
After their performance, it was time to announce the first saves of the night. From Team Usher, no surprise, Josh Kaufman was quickly ushered into the next rounds. America also saved Kat Perkins from Team Adam.
Kristen Merlin from Team Shakira also sailed through to the next live rounds, no doubt due to her impressive performance Monday night, when she sang through her mic cutting out in the middle of the song. Audra McLaughlin was also saved by the viewers, as were Jake Worthington, Delvin Choice, Bria Kelly, Christina Grimmie and Sisaundra Lewis.

Fans have been buzzing since last week about the possibility of No Doubt frontwoman Gwen Stefani joining The Voice as a mentor next season. While NBC is keeping tight-lipped on the subject, The Voice vet Adam Levine said he’d be very excited if there’s any truth to the rumors.
“I’m a huge fan — she’s a wonderful human being, and I love her to pieces,” Levine said of Stefani. “She’s so talented. She’s just great.”
Fellow coach Blake Shelton chimed in and said that, while he has never actually met Stefani, he’s very aware of who she is.

The best part of watching The Voice is, well, hearing the voices.
That can’t be said for Top 12 contestant Kristen Merlin, who took the stage during season 6′s first live episode Monday — only to have her microphone fail completely during the last third of her performance.
Merlin was in the midst of singing her solid rendition of Sugarland’s “Stay” (delivering one of her strongest performances) when her voice cut out about 80 seconds into the song. A few seconds later, Merlin removed her in-ear monitor while she continued to sing; when a stagehand finally gave her a microphone 20 seconds later,...

Country singer Kristen Merlin was made fully aware Monday night that The Voice competition is now live. Performing as one of season 6's Top 12 finalists, Merlin's mic dropped out for more than a few seconds, leaving her to continue - and exhibit some admirable "show must go on" professionalism - after she had only delivered a little more than half of a touching and intimate version of Sugarland's hit "Stay." The judges were on their feet and Adam Levine was effusive after Merlin jerked out her ear monitor, took hold of a new mic from a stage manager and continued like nothing went wrong.

The Voice's top 12 performed in the first live episode of the season, with Josh Kaufman delivering a scene stealing performance and Kristen Merlin singing through a microphone malfunction.
Top 12 Perform Live
Bria Kelly from Team Usher started it off with Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” with a little rock twist. For those who have waited until the live rounds to begin watching, Bria made a splash last week, with all the coaches declaring her the one to beat. Her vocals and her rocker rasp are all favorites of the judges. Her take on “Rolling In The Deep” was different enough from Adele’s that she didn’t have to live up to the all around adored singer. The only downside to the performance was her guitar, which she carried around for the entire performance and only played it for the last few bars. It looked more like a prop than anything else,...

It's Playoffs week on NBC's “The Voice,” and coaches are making some tough decisions on who will stay and who will go before voting begins next week. Now let's pull up a chair, pour a cup of brandy and talk about my highlights. 1. Welcome back! After two rounds of being montaged, Team Shakira's Kristen Merlin finally got to do a full, non-montaged performance. While her “Two Black Cadillacs” wasn't perfect by any means, she gave a strong showing, hitting some impressive targets throughout the song and demonstrating great stage presence that had me wondering why she was ever montaged in.

Now that the playoffs are over, this season of The Voice has found its Top 12, and it’s time to vote!
You’ve read the recap, and now I present my most updated Power List, ranking the players on where they stand in the competition as of the playoff performances on Tuesday, April 15. Remember, we’ve seen these artists so spread out throughout the year that next week’s first live show will be a sprightly reminder of comparing them all on the same playing field. That explains the major jumps in this list from last week to this week.

Usher picked his top three to move on to the live shows in the final episode of the Playoffs on The Voice.
Tj Wilkins was up first, singing “Tell Me Somethin’ Good” by Chaka Khan & Rufus. Tj is a soul singer to his core, and the song shows off his strengths. Adam Levine compliments Tj for his ability to entertain, even while giving a somewhat subdued performance, and Shakira notes that the high note he hit at the end was the perfect trick to finish off the performance.
Melissa Jimenez decided to sing “Halo” by Beyoncé, a song choice that is certainly a risk for Melissa. In rehearsals, Melissa says she wants to “strip down” the track, hoping to let her vocals shine. Unfortunately for Melissa, she doesn’t have the power that Beyoncé has, though she nails the high notes towards the end of her performance. Adam and Shakira...

It takes a lot of musical skill to draw Usher's envy, but South Carolina artist Delvin Choice did just that Monday as the second night of playoff rounds continued on The Voice.
Singing Al Green's soul classic "Let's Stay Together," Choice showed range and ease as the Team Adam singer effortlessly performed shimmering vocal runs, turning up the heat for his competitors in a major way.
"I am jealous," Usher, himself a master of the falsetto, said of Choice, who auditioned in season 5 but failed to turn any chairs. This time, however, Choice was back with force, creating a...

Being a male singer on Monday's two hours of "The Voice" playoffs was not a good thing. Only one man survived out of the 10 performances featured. That fact doesn't only apply to the competitors. Shakira's team of five was much better across the board than the one put forth by coach Adam Levine. -Break- Subscribe to Gold Derby's YouTube Channel The first hour of Monday's show was completely devoted to Shakira's remaining contenders. Kristen Merlin opened the program with a rowdy rendition of Carrie Underwood's "Two Black Cadillacs." Up next was Deja Hall with her stirring "Battlefield" from Jordin Sparks. "Human" by Christina Perri was the song selection for Tess Boyer. The fourth performance was from Patrick Thomson, who sang "Trouble" by Ray Lamontagne. And finally, Dani Moz even got a standing ovation from her coach with the Lady Gaga tune &...

The Voice coaches Shakira and Adam Levine had to eliminate two members of their own teams to narrow down their contestants to a top three in this week’s Playoff rounds.
Team Shakira: Dani Moz, Tess Boyer, Kristen Merlin
Kristen Merlin, who has had minimal screen time so far, started things off strongly with the country rock song “Two Black Cadillacs.” Adam and country authority Blake Shelton declare Kristen a force to be reckoned with, and Blake praises her country prowess, saying it was as good as any live performance could be.
Deja Hall, one of the youngest contestants of the season, decided to sing “Battlefield” by Jordin Sparks. Hall is solid, and the coaches applaud her for her increased confidence onstage, but her performance fails to inspire any gushing.
Next up, former NFL cheerleader Tess Boyer performed Christina Perri’s “Human.” Tess blew the coaches away with her strong performance,...

If you’ve stuck with the sixth season of The Voice, you may be incredibly relieved to know that we’ve finally arrived at the Top 20, narrowing down some less-than-stellar talent to the best of the best. Or, most of the best. In truth, there are still some stragglers who have yet to prove themselves, but the playoff rounds (beginning April 8) should weed out the less impressive folks and leave us with a pretty nifty Top 12, worthy of performing in front of the voting public.
Before the next round begins, here’s the breakdown for this season’s first power list.
