- In 2000, Jeff saved the life of a woman in Boston he met in an America Online chat room who had slit her wrists. By working with both Madison and Boston police, Erlanger was able to get her the help she needed.
- He was diagnosed with a spinal tumor when he was seven months old. As a result, her lost the use of his arms and legs rendering him a quadriplegic.

- In 1999, Jeff appeared at a Television Academy Hall of Fame induction ceremony as a guest, to surprise Fred Rogers. When Mr. Rogers saw him, the children's show host leaped out of his seat and rushed to greet him on stage.
