Exclusive: The story of popular UK lads magazine Loaded, which covered the 1990s Cool Britannia era in all its glory, is to be told in a TV series from Channel 4-backed Spirit Studios.
Spirit has optioned the rights to Loaded co-founder Tim Southwell’s Getting Away With It book and original screenplay as it pushes further into scripted. Southwell has written the script and other writers will come on board further down the line.
The book depicts an era dominated by Britpop, drug culture and a fresh sense of optimism. Launched in 1994 by Southwell, James Brown and Mick Brunnage, Loaded was one of a string of lads magazines that recorded the era’s culture, fashion, sport and politics. It shut down in 2015 and relaunched digitally.

Spirit Studios, the independent content production company backed by C4’s Indie Growth Fund has appointed influencer expert Millie Webber as Head of Digital.
Millie, who joins from talent agency Gleam Futures where over six years she cultivated strong talent and commercial partnership relationships, navigating the ever-changing digital landscape to ensure legacy talent had credible, diversified revenue streams. She was latterly Talent Director and Podcast Lead.
Having been instrumental in the development of 5 Sunday Times Best Selling books, multiple high figure brand partnerships and an array of licensing deals, Millie’s true passion is podcast development, where she helped develop a number of chart-topping podcasts, generating six figure incomes for talent.

Exclusive: Alexandra Fraser, a UK indie veteran and former Joint-ceo of Embarrassing Bodies producer Maverick TV, has joined Channel 4-backed Spirit Studios in the newly-created role of Creative and Board Advisor.
Fraser, a well-respected figure in the UK production sector, is tasked with helping Spirit achieve its creative, strategic and commercial ambitions following a period of growth.
