Irshad James
- Writer
- Director
- Producer
Irshad James was born the same year in which the films "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", "Dirty Harry" and "Diamonds Are Forever" were released. Starbucks was also founded that same year. So it is not a coincidence that Irshad loves chocolate, Clint Eastwood, James Bond and coffee.
In 1991, he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to attend graduate school (Computer Science) at the University of Minnesota. That is also where he started his entertainment career with stand-up comedy. He has performed at various venues all over the United States and Japan.
One day in the year 2000, as he was shoveling the snow in Minnesota, his shovel broke. He never bought another shovel. Instead, he moved to warm and sunny Austin, Texas.
He continued to write short stories, which were published in various magazines. He took screen-writing classes at the UCLA film school (University of California, Los Angeles) in 2006.
He later pursued his passion for film-making, with the comedy short film Back to India (2013) (2013), which he wrote and directed. He later wrote and directed Tyler's Taxi (2015) (2015), an action / drama short film that won several awards at the film festivals, and originally streamed on Amazon Prime (and now streaming on YouTube). He is working on a new feature film Austen (2024), which is in pre-production.
