- Created early internet bulletin board called Newsbase in 1984 which emphasized a focus on Progressive news events.
- Graduated from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota (Now Northern State University) in May 1960 with a degree in Political Science and Liberal Arts.
- Functioned as Public Relations Director for the South Dakota Farmer's Union in Huron, SD from 1962 to 1963.
- Served as publicist for Gov. Ralph Herseth (D-SD) and speechwriter for Sen. George McGovern (D-SD) in the early 60's.
- Served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957, where he received training as a Combat Medic.
- Performed in several school productions at NTSC in the late 1950's such as "The Dearly Departed", "The Desperate Hours" and "Teahouse of the August Moon".
