Until now, Homelander has been the only one to mimic Captain America’s righteous star-spangled banner routine, although in a diabolically psychopathic light. However, with the coming of a new age, it seems that Batman is also getting in on the game. DC is finally going toe-to-toe with Captain America himself with their own version: Commander Star.

Although the volume of DC comics of the last century or so has been a colorfully graded experience with delectable villains and incomparable heroes, it was high time that the audience of the newer generation of comic readers was introduced to something a bit more fresh. Commander Star performs that role with more than sufficient gusto in Batman’s all-new edition.

The trailer has debuted for “Fugue” (Fuga), which is world premiering simultaneously at the Edinburgh and Lima film festivals. The hybrid feature is directed by Mary Jiménez and Bénédicte Liénard.
Lima will fete Jiménez with a tribute, screening three of her most celebrated works: “Del Verbo Amar,” “Loco Lucho” and “In the Name of Tania.”
“Fugue” takes place deep in the Peruvian Amazon, where the terrorist group Shining Path’s bloodthirsty violence and homophobia collide to devastating effect. A young shaman (Saor Sax) accompanies Valentina’s body back to the village for burial.
“Fuga” is the continuation of the filmmakers’ last film, “In the Name of Tania,” which was also shot in the Peruvian Amazon. They said: “’Fuga’ explores the stories of homosexuals persecuted by the Tupac Amaru and Shining Path terrorist groups during the ‘dirty war’ in Peru (1970-2000). This generation, which survived persecution in silence and shame, has...

Raul Malo knows how to make an entrance. On a bright June morning in Nashville’s 12 South neighborhood, the Mavericks frontman comes cruising up the driveway of a hilltop coffeeshop on a Vespa scooter. He’s smiling broadly, with a green shirt unbuttoned to his chest to reveal a large medallion that’s as eye-catching as his arrival.
Malo didn’t know it when he parked the Vespa and sat down for coffee and muesli with Rolling Stone, but he was just days away from receiving news that would change his life.

While standing outside 30 Rockefeller Plaza by the picket lines, tambourine in hand, “Broad City” co-creator and star Ilana Glazer kept returning to the same sentiment.
“I’m so angry,” Glazer told TheWrap. “I’m so angry that I’m bursting at the seams.”
That feeling permeated across the WGA’s “young writers picket,” a day dedicated to writers either in college, fresh out of college or at the beginning of their careers who eventually want to become part of the WGA. According to WGA strike captain Dylan Guerra, this day was more than just an interesting theme. It was a day dedicated to “a group of people that are deeply considered in the strike and one of the motivating factors for why we’re striking.”
It also was organized by a person of an age bracket the WGA says it is striking for. Tai Lyn Sandhu is a 16-year-old aspiring...

The Canary Islands are attracting illustrious animation directors and art directors from France and the Spanish mainland, as local talent is returning and building:
Daniel Albaladejo Robles
Growing up on the island of Tenerife at a time when pursuing a career in animation and film was out of bounds, Albaladejo moved to Madrid to study both subjects at the Madrid Film School. His first jobs were on children’s series “Jelly Jamm,” “Pocoyo” and “The Amazing World of Gumball.” His VFX credits include “Game of Thrones” and “A Monster Calls” at El Ranchito in Madrid. “For the past few years, I have focused on storyboarding or animation, working as a freelancer for various studios, including Las Palmas-based Amuse,” he says. He recently worked on animated docu pic, “Mariposas Negras,” and is now collaborating on a U.K. series under wraps. Amdlf

This article contains spoilers for season 4 episode 8 of Succession.
Succession fans all know Greg (Nicholas Braun) as the dumb yet somewhat loveable cousin of the Roy siblings, but what if his stupidity was all an act? He’s done many morally questionable things under Tom’s (Matthew Macfadyen) leadership, but it never seemed like he was doing them entirely of his own volition, but rather because of Tom’s bullying. However, after a specific scene in the episode “America Decides,” we believe that Greg may be a lot smarter and calculating than he lets on.
In this episode, the election that the series has been building to for four seasons is finally happening, but not without some bumps in the road. Likely Jeryd Mencken supporters set a Milwaukee polling place on fire, destroying many of the mail-in ballots that had yet to be counted. In order to show their support...

This article contains spoilers for season 4 episode 8 of Succession.
If there was any hope that Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong) could change his ways and become a better person in the wake of his father’s death, it has been thoroughly squashed by the latest episode of Succession “America Decides.” Watching Kendall work with his siblings to succeed in spite of his father rather than for his approval has been one of the most interesting and compelling arcs this season, but we should have known that it was too good to be true. Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Shiv (Sarah Snook) have already shown that they’re looking out for themselves above whatever bond they have as family by siding with Mencken (Justin Kirk) and Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård), respectively, so it was really only a matter of time before we saw the full return of “killer” Kendall.
Sure we’ve seen bits...

Spoilers for "Succession" follow.
Well, it's official. Jeryd Mencken (Justin Kirk) will be the next President of the United States — thankfully not in this reality. Back in "Succession" season 3's "What It Takes," the fascist Congressman was recruited to run as the Republican nominee for president by the Roy family (mostly Logan and Roman). In the latest episode, fittingly titled "America Decides," he's elected president -- but not with the will of the people.
On election night, Mencken supporters firebomb a polling office in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Wisconsin has become a swing state since the 2010s but Milwaukee is a blue firewall, so most of the destroyed votes surely would've gone to Mencken's opponent Daniel Jiménez (Elliot Villar). The lack of those votes is enough to flip Wisconsin to Mencken and give him the 270 electoral votes he needs for victory.
The Roys' own news network Atn calls Wisconsin for Mencken and...

The following article contains spoilers for season 4, episode 8 of "Succession."
Atn has always been one of the jewels in the Waystar Royco crown, but we haven't spent much time getting to see how it operates on a day-to-day basis. Sure, Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen) has been the head of Atn for quite a while, but other than potentially being a fall guy for the Roys, the role didn't seem to give Tom much to do. That all changed in "America Decides," in which the election storyline that's been building slowly over the series finally comes to its potentially disastrous conclusion. It's the night of the election and there are three candidates: Democrat and front-runner Daniel Jiménez (Elliot Villar), far-right Republican Jeryd Mencken (Justin Kirk), and Independent idiot Connor Roy (Alan Ruck).
Atn stands for American Television Network, and it's the "Succession" world's version of CNN or, more aptly, Fox News,...

This article contains spoilers through season 4 episode 7 of Succession.
With all of the Roy family’s drama, it’s easy to forget that Succession has spent all four seasons building up to a major presidential election with actual stakes. Given how obscenely wealthy the Roys are, politics have always been something they can casually interact with and flip sides on to suit their own personal needs without worrying about the cascading effects on the rest of the country. Even Connor’s (Alan Ruck) presidential campaign has felt more like a running joke than anything of consequence to the show. That is, until this week’s episode “Tailgate Party.”
Set the night before the presidential election, “Tailgate Party” showed us just how close this election is, with Jiménez ahead of Mencken by only four points. Because the race is so close, Mencken’s campaign uses Roman (Kieran Culkin) to try and...

In a year when four Spanish titles made the shortlist for the Academy Award best live action short and illustrious short filmmakers have or are making the transition from to feature – think Estibaliz Urresola with “Cuerdas,· now Berlin winner “20,000 Species of Bees” and now Pedro Martín-Calero with “The Wailing,” starring Ester Expósito – Malaga’s Mafiz-Spanish Screenings has launched a Short Film Corner.
Following, five standout shorts from a dizzying selection of 58 titles, which are accompanied by round tables and presentations at an immediately fully-fledged major new section at the Malaga Festival and Spanish Screenings.
“Mourn,” (Marc Borràs)
Inspired by Johnna Adams’ play “Gideon’s Knot,” “Mourn” (“Duelo”) revolves around a classroom meeting between a troubled teacher (Àngels López) and an angry and mourning mother (Sandra Molins) who blames her for a seemingly avoidable tragedy. Molins and López’s intense and emotional performances result in a powerful and agonizing confrontation.

A pair of items once owned by the late Paul Newman — specifically, two wristwatches — have already proven themselves to be highly collectible at auction, with a rare Rolex Daytona gaveling for $17.8 million in 2017 and another Daytona selling for $5.4 million three years later.
Now, Sotheby’s auction house is readying a sale of more than 300 items from the collection of Newman, who died in 2008 at age 83, and his wife of 50 years, 93-year-old, Oscar-winning actress Joanne Woodward. (The actress was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2007.)
Set to take place across a series of Sotheby’s sales this June in New York, the collection, titled “The World of Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman,” encompasses objects that provide a window into both the professional and personal lives of the couple, recently chronicled in the six-part HBO Max docuseries The Last Movie Stars, directed by Ethan Hawke.
