[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 11 “All In.”] If we had to describe where The Resident goes with Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) after that fall finale kiss, it would have to be “inevitable.” But don’t feel too bad for Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), who does find out what happened between her (ex-)boyfriend and his late wife’s best friend — she might not be alone for long. Upon returning from visiting her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) in rehab, Cade admits she lied about where she was to Conrad. To her surprise, he’s not upset, just focused on what means for her and her dad. But that’s also because he has his own confession to make: “I haven’t been honest with myself or you, about my feelings for Billie.” She asks if something happened. “I kissed her,” he says.

Making enemies with the new governor (Steven Culp) is proving to be a major problem for Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) on The Resident. Betz has enlisted a spy at Chastain and is digging up dirt on Bell (specifically looking for possible lawsuits), and now, in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek, the surgeon is served court papers from a former patient while receiving the Lifetime of Service Award for how much he’s meant to the hospital! In the November 15 episode, Bell is honored as “someone who has done more for Chastain than perhaps any other one person. He has saved more lives than could possibly be counted….” And the staff is in attendance. That includes Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), with Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas), and her new love interest Dr. James Yamada (Ian Anthony Dale), who seems to be having a good time.

The hour was pure perfection.
To celebrate a milestone in 100 episodes of the series, The Resident Season 6 Episode 6 did a tremendous job of marking the occasion with the long-awaited wedding for Kit and Bell and a beautiful display of these characters we love and adore simply doing what they do best.
From the heartrending and emotional medical case with Max and Tracy to the family feels of the gang coming together to celebrate Kitbell to the recognition of Bell's growth -- cleverly juxtaposed with Ian Sullivan's continued descent, the hour felt like appreciation for the fans who have tuned in for six seasons.
It wasn't a shadow of a doubt that we'd get our happy wedding ceremony with Kit and Bell, but it wouldn't be The Resident if it weren't dramatic and kept us on edge until the blissful payoff in those final moments.

Things are looking up for Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) on The Resident. In fact, as TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the October 18 episode shows, they might actually get to spend time together away from the hospital. Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) forwarded an email from a mother thanking him for saving her baby to his daughter. “Modest as always,” Cade remarks. Conrad asks how things are going. Ian did pass the second drug test (though she doesn’t know how he did that) and is operating up a storm, so “fine, I guess,” Cade says. But in happier news, Cade’s finally off nights, which means… “You have room for one more tonight?” she asks. “Always,” Conrad tells her. But a patient in distress interrupts their conversation. Watch the clip above to see more. Conrad and Cade are going to have “a really intense,...

Ian Sullivan evaded trouble for now, but how long is that sustainable?
Ian was in full-blown withdrawal throughout The Resident Season 6 Episode 4, and it was nerve-wracking to witness.
He barely pulled off an intricate surgery on an infant, raised many flags with his colleagues, and he torpedoed whatever progress he made in his relationship with Cade.
While a doctor dependent on substances isn't new in this series, they've fully committed to fleshing it out more than they previously had. We're getting the full scope of how Ian's addiction, withdrawal, and his attempts to hide it are impacting him.
Withdrawal is a beast. As Cade astutely pointed out, sometimes, coming down from the addiction is worse than feeding it.
She speaks from the perspective of an addict's daughter, and it is fitting that she dealt directly with and treated the mother and addict. In contrast, Ian got tasked with trying to...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 4 “It Won’t Be Like This for Long.”] If Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) keeps going like he is on The Resident, he will not be able to hide his addiction for much longer, no matter how clever he thinks he is. After testing positive (and coming up with what he thought was a good excuse), he must provide another urine sample to the lab, but there’s one major problem: He’s going through withdrawal, and he’s very eager to get that done Asap so he can take another pill. He tries to move up the test, but the technician won’t be in until 4 p.m. He even tries to use surgery as an excuse, but then he finds out he has to operate on a baby sooner rather than later (as in before 4 p.m.). Considering Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) is in the middle of a love triangle and her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy), isn’t going anywhere, it’s no surprise that she’s sticking around. Ronayne has been upped to series regular for The Resident Season 6, TVLine reports. So even if she doesn’t have a romantic future with Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry), her personal life will probably be filled with enough conflict just from having her father now at Chastain full-time. Nathan Bolster/Fox “We love the soap between [Ian] and Cade, father and daughter working in the same hospital. We think that’s really fun and interesting,” showrunner Andrew Chapman told TV Insider after the Season 5 finale. “He plays the sort of narcissistic ambitious surgeon so well [and] we have little hints of character flaws. He’s had a disease, but he also has an issue with painkillers. There...

Dr. Ian Sullivan is sticking around at Chastain Memorial Hospital.
Deadline reported Monday that Andrew McCarthy has been promoted to series regular for The Resident Season 6.
“His groundbreaking surgeries rescue the most vulnerable patients and make him key to the hospital’s financial stability," Deadline shared of Ian's arc on The Resident Season 6.
"But as Ian’s demons emerge, both his daughter, Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) and our doctors face a dilemma."
"Where do you draw the line with a doctor whose own life is spiraling dangerously out of control, even as the keeps saving lives?”
McCarthy debuted at the end of The Resident Season 5, and a promotion to series regular status was on the table since he joined the cast.
His first big storyline involved him showing up at the hospital to save his daughter after she was shot.
He collapsed and later learned that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

At the end of the last episode of The Resident, Dr. Kincaid “Cade” Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) wasn’t exactly jumping for joy when she heard her father, Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy), was at Chastain — and he was there to donate blood to save her life! But their relationship is complicated, and that’s one aspect that TV Insider’s exclusive featurette with McCarthy, Matt Czuchry (who plays Dr. Conrad Hawkins), and Ronayne addresses. “Ian is a wildly talented, wildly arrogant, yet oh so charming pediatric surgeon,” McCarthy says. “He’s a great guy. His patients love him. His family maybe less so.” Clips from the series prove each point, with Cade even telling her father, “don’t get me wrong, I’m loving the attention, but who are you again?” Nathan Bolster/Fox To say “their relationship is complicated,” as Ronayne puts it, is an understatement. “When you get...

We have a new character who may shake things up at Chastain.
Ian Sullivan made his debut on The Resident Season 5 Episode 21 after a harrowing hour of Cade fighting for her life.
Join Carissa Pavlica, Leora W., and Meaghan Frey as they discuss it all.
Did Cade's shooting and the dramatic, all hands on deck, race to save her have you on the edge of your seat?
Carissa: Honestly? No. I wasn't on the edge of my seat, but it's always fun watching the whole team work together. Was the last time we saw it when they worked on Nic?
Leora W: I think it was hard because we haven't really been invested in Cade, but it was dramatic in how all near-fatal patient cases are. I was watching with a friend who is new to the show, and she was way more invested in the outcome than I was.

Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) has officially entered the building… but is he just at Chastain to save his daughter’s life? The promo for the May 10 episode of The Resident reveals there’s more to this trip from Seattle to Georgia than that. Still, he does tell Dr. Kincaid “Cade” Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne), “I came to save you.” In the latest episode, “Risk,” Cade was shot after becoming a whistleblower and working with the FBI to take down a mob operation involving fraudulent prescriptions. As the Chastain staff worked to save her, they discovered that she has a very rare blood type (Rhnull). While she did have a couple units stored at her previous job, they were frozen and the plastic cracked, leading to leaks, when Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) and Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas) thawed the bags. They used a blood substitute to get her through...

Cade lives to see another day, but we didn't have any doubts.
Chastain got thrown into a tailspin, and things got chaotic on The Resident Season 5 Episode 21 when Cade's abrupt departure got derailed by a drive-by shooting that nearly cost Cade her life.
And we got our first glimpse of the smarmy, charmer Ian Sullivan, Cade's father. And boy, he seems like he'll be fun.
Sadly the hour lacked the momentum it would've had if we didn't already know Cade would get gunned down because of the promos for the installment and if we ever bought for a second that she would succumb to her injuries.
Because neither of those things was the case, much of the hour was in seeing what creative ways they'd come up with to save Cade after the rare blood type curveball and how Cade's near-death would impact Conrad after Nic.
Devon: It's like he...
