Derek Michael Parker is an independent filmmaker, screenwriter, and editor. Parker graduated from Hermitage High School, and the Highland Springs Tech Center for radio, broadcasting, and journalism in Richmond, Virginia. While at Highland Springs, Parker developed a skill in speech, radio, writing, and broadcast editing. Parker moved to Houston, Texas where he attended Texas Southern University, graduating with a BA degree in Mass Communications. He created the YouTube HBCU web series "My Roommate From Hell (2013)," and started shooting his first short films in Houston before relocating to Los Angeles, California. After graduating from the New York Film Academy MFA program, Parker completed his first Emmy nominated film Single Life Dad (2018), where he worked as grip and editor for the project. He has directed over twenty short films including The Three Accused (2013), The Parker Sisters (2014), Prove Me Innocent (2015), What You Deserve (2022), and Youngin (2023).
