Walter Kortschak is a producer, writer and co-founder of End Cue, a hybrid technology software and film development and production company in Culver City, CA. End Cue is a lead investor in Greencard Pictures, a commercial production company in New York City, specializing in film, commercial and advertising clients like Google, Virgin America and Universal. End Cue has incubated several start-up companies at the intersection of technology and the creative arts, including RivetAI, which has developed groundbreaking AI technology to help people create content much faster by using AI to augment creativity, and Nucleal, which has developed a proprietary brand health diagnostic framework utilizing AI to help brands optimize their advertising campaigns and re-position their messaging.
Walter started his career as a software engineer then worked in product marketing before becoming a venture capitalist and has over 32 years of experience funding emerging growth companies. Over his venture capital career as a managing partner at Summit Partners, Walter has served as a director of over 50 companies, including 20 public companies. Walter has served as a fund advisor to several micro-VC firms in Silicon Valley and was an active angel investor in several notable companies such as First Republic Bank, Lyft, Palantir, Trade Desk and Twitter. He serves as Executive Chairman of SignalFire, a data-driven venture capital firm he joined at inception in 2013. He has consistently appeared on Forbes Magazine's Midas List of top 100 venture capitalists.
Walter received a B.S. from Oregon State University in 1981, an M.S. from the California Institute of Technology in 1982, both in engineering, and an M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1986. He is a member of the Board of Trustees at the California Institute of Technology. He is also a past director of the National Venture Capital Association.
Walter and his wife, Marcia are active philanthropists having founded the Kortschak Scholars Program for Ph.D. students in computer science at the California Institute of Technology and the USC Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity. They also endowed the Division Chair in Film and Television Production at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.
