Critically acclaimed Hollywood writer-director Andrew de Burgh was born to an English father and Indian mother in Shropshire, England. A keen film fan from a young age, de Burgh grew up in several countries including England, France, Spain, Dubai, the Netherlands, India and the United States.
de Burgh started writing, producing and direct his own short films whilst studying at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. In 2015, he directed his first professional short film, the psychological thriller "Just One Drink", which he also wrote, produced and starred in opposite Barbara Nedeljakova ("Hostel"). It premiered at the 2015 Chinese American Film Festival and earned universal praise from film critics, garnering a perfect 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes. It was also distributed as an Editor's Pick by ShortsTV, the distributor behind each year's Oscar® Nominated Short Films. In 2017, he wrote and directed the black and while silent thriller short "The Twisted Doll" which screened at several international film festivals including the Polish Film Festival Los Angeles, the largest foreign film festival in the United States.
In 2018, de Burgh wrote, produced and directed the cerebral sci-fi drama feature "The Bestowal" starring Sharmita Bhattacharya (Amazon Original "Panic"). The film scored a 78% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and won awards at film festivals worldwide, including Best Director at the Lake City International Film Festival, Best Actress at the Los Angeles IFS Film Festival and Best Screenplay at the Love International Film Festival. In November 2019, it was released on VOD platforms including Amazon Prime, Tubi, Google Play and YouTube Movies by Indie Rights. In 2020, he co-produced and directed the animated Christmas short film "The Legend of Santa", which received praise from film critics and qualified for a BAFTA through the film festival DokuFest. Emmy® nominated director Cady McClain called it "a charming and heart-warming short" and Film Threat critic Bobby LePire said of it, "the film's world is inviting and feels truly magical." It was released on the short film app Sofy.tv by Mbur Films.
In 2021, he wrote, produced and directed the horror-thriller short "The Tortured Soul" starring Bianca Stam ("Chasing the Dragon") which screened at the 2022 McMinnville Short Film Festival and was praised by "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" producer Shintaro Shimosawa, who called it "fascinating and tragic". Slated for release in 2024 is Season 1 of his first TV show, the Cpics Original (acquired by ZEE5) psychological thriller "The Twisted Doll". It stars newcomers Summer Singh and Felix Merback in the lead roles, as well as Bree Mignano (Brat TV's "Attaway General"), Xander Bailey ("Beckman"), Andrew Ghai ("Apple TV+'s "For All Mankind"), TV personality and Instagram influencer Carrington Durham ("Making a Model with Yolanda Hadid"), Rebecca Ritz ("Minority Report"), Chelsea Gilson ("Hawaii Five-O") and Will Roberts ("Oppenheimer"). It also features an original soundtrack by renowned composer Elezeid (PlayStation 5's "Z-Warp") and sound design by Steve Campagna ("Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker").
Slated for release in Halloween of 2025 is his second feature film as writer-director and producer, the horror-thriller "The Seductress from Hell", which stars Rocio Scotto (Blumhouse's "They Listen") in the title role, as well as Jason Faunt ("Power Rangers Time Force"), James Hyde ("Netflix's Monarca") and Andy Lauer ("Iron Man 3"). A co-production between Garaj Pictures and Sacred Ember Films, the film tells the story of a Hollywood actress who undergoes a horrific transformation after being pushed to the edge by her psychopathic husband.
