Japanese creator Naoko Yamada, whose latest film “The Colors Within” screened in the main competition at this year’s Annecy Animation Festival, continues to challenge herself.
“Animation provides me with hope, yearning and challenges. It allows me to expand my imagination infinitely and, at the same time, it challenges me to see how much imagination I actually have,” she told Variety via an interpreter following the premiere of her latest.
“I want to see what I can do without limiting myself to any particular subjects.”
It introduces a young Totsuko, a closeted synesthete who can actually see others as colors. She becomes fascinated with honor student Kimi – and her dazzling shade, who has dropped out of school but pretends to attend for her grandmother’s sake.
Kimi also has a hidden talent – she loves to play the electric guitar and dabbles in songwriting. Later, when the two start to become friends,...

After the massive critical and commercial success of “A Silent Voice” (2016), it seemed like director Naoko Yamada could do no wrong and was poised for huge things. It may have been strange for some then that her next directorial project would be tied to the “Sound! Euphonium” anime series, which Yamada had previously worked on as series unit director under Tatsuya Ishihara. It could almost be seen as a regression, as Yamada's first two features, “K-on! The Movie” (2011) and “Tamako Love Story” (2014), were also based on pre-existing anime series. Yet whether a fan of “Sound! Euphonium” or not, “Liz and the Blue Bird” (2018) is a constant delight and could well be Yamada's masterpiece.

The Bold and the Beautiful actress Lisa Yamada has finally settled into her role as Luna after joining the long-running soap last year, but those first few days on set were daunting. Speaking with SoapOperaDigest, Yamada opened up about her experience on the show, revealing the crew “totally hazed” her on her second week on set by giving her “45 pages of dialogue in one day.” “I was going to cry. The night before, I was like, ‘I can’t do this! I don’t know. They think too much of me. There’s no way I can do this!’” she recalled. However, she received some much-needed advice and a confidence boost from soap opera veteran John McCook, who has portrayed Bold and the Beautiful patriarch Eric Forrester since the show’s first episode in 1987. “I’ll never forget this,” Yamada continued. “John McCook told me, ‘Just take it one scene at a time.

Previously, in Song Of The Bandits episode 8, we saw the mounted bandits, led by Jang-Ki-Ryong, orchestrate an attack on the Joseon bandits. They held Choong-soo and his accomplices captive and brutally tortured them. One of those captives, Nam-chun, stepped in to safeguard his entire group by attempting to sacrifice himself. While he managed to distract Jang-Ki-Ryong and his associates by leading them to a desolate land, Lee Yoon and Eon-nyeni went to the prison, where Choong-soo and the others, including Seon-bok, were being held captive. Although Yoon and Eon-nyeni manage to set them free, Jang-Ki-Ryong, realizing Nam-chun’s deception, shoots him, leaving him to die on the ground.
