Chris Munger(II)
- Music Department
- Composer
Chris Munger got his start playing the guitar during his high school
years on Long Island, NY. After studying music at Five Towns College
and honing his chops on his instrument playing in bands, he began his
career in the mail room at Comedy Central. Chris had started a band
with his neighborhood friend John Montalbano who he knew since high
school. This band was called My World. The band became an instant
favorite of the entire staff at Comedy Central, so much that My World
would play at many of their events.
Building his reputation as a creative musician, Comedy Central gave Chris his first break by asking him to create music for the South Park website. As they gave him more and more projects he was eventually promoted to music supervisor in the On-Air Promotions department at Comedy Central. Chris worked with the production team to help create Comedy Central's brand identification, write and produce music for on-air promos as well as music for network shows.
Chris then took a new position in the Creative/A&R department at Warner Chappell Music in New York. It was here that he got his experience working with many of the signed artists recording and producing music pieces from basic song demos to fully produced masters. Part of his job was also to be a talent scout for new writers and artists as well as putting known artists together for creative writing projects.
After his time with Warner Chappell, it was time to go on his own. Chris Munger started Munger Music Inc., which would operate as a consulting business handling music direction, music supervision, third party licensing and original composition. He was brought on as music director for the Versus network which eventually led to more clients such as NBC, MTV, MSG, NHL, Comedy Central, Spike, Corona, TV One, etc.
Another aspect that Chris Munger has become a go-to person for is re-records. Publishing houses as well as individual music catalog owners have come to Chris to create different versions of songs for licensing purposes. Chris has re-recorded music for publishers Universal Music, Reservoir Media, Warner Chappell, BMG/Chrysalis, etc. with a wide variety of songs from Jimmy Cliff to Big & Rich.
Chris's My World band-mate John Montalbano was working with Chuck D from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group Public Enemy. When Chuck heard My World, he invited Chris and John to co-write and play on tracks for two Public Enemy CDs "New Whirl Odor" and "Beats and Places".
After establishing a relationship with BMG/Chrysalis, Chris Munger signed of a consulting deal with them. With his experience and network he has brought TV shows, film productions, new and established artists under the BMG/Chrysalis umbrella as well as brokered publishing company mergers and acquisitions.
From 2011 - 2014 Chris Munger has partnered up with fashion designer Steve Madden to build and promote the Madden Music division. Chris Munger has also signed a publishing deal with BMG/Chrysalis, both as an individual as well as with his group My World. My World has released an album "All Shapes And Sizes" on the BMG/Chrysalis/Fieldhouse record label. My World has worked on a new cartoon series with John Holmstrom the creator of Punk Magazine and illustrator of the 2013 movie release CBGB.
