Even amid an unrelenting apocalyptic world, life finds a way. Ahead of The Last of Us Season 1 finale, HBO released a new image featuring a pregnant and seemingly stressed-out woman named Anna. Also known as Ellie’s mother, Anna is played by acclaimed voice actor and motion capture performer Ashley Johnson, who originated the role of Ellie Williams in the video game series. In the series, Ellie is portrayed by Bella Ramsey.
Within The Last of Us lore, little is known about Anna outside of her friendship with Marlene, leader of the Fireflies, and her death soon after giving birth to Ellie, leaving behind her favorite switchblade and a personal note, which Ellie carries in her backpack. However, knowing that series showrunner Craig Mazin and creator Neil Druckmann share a penchant for expanding and differentiating from the source material, we can expect to gather more information about who Anna is...

This post contains spoilers for The Last of Us
Five episodes in, The Last of Us is more interested in breaking your heart than it is in turning your stomach. The most recent entry “Endure and Survive” is no exception, introducing us to the tragic brother duo of Henry and Sam (beautifully portrayed by Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Woodard). After giving Joel and Ellie a new set of companions and a way out of dangerous Kansas City, the episode ripped it all away with Sam’s infection and Henry’s hopeless reaction.
But the episode wasn’t all doom and gloom. Not only did we get the live-action debut of a bloater, a powerful and disgusting form of infected straight from the video game, but we saw the end of Melanie Lynskey’s Kathleen, the ruthless leader of the Kansas City resistance. Kathleen has been on the hunt for Henry,...

“The Last of Us” series at HBO has cast Anna Torv in a recurring guest star role.
Torv joins previously announced series leads Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as well as cast members Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandrige, Nico Parker, Murray Bartlet, Con O’Neill, and Jeffery Pierce.
“The Last of Us” series was first announced as being in development at the premium cabler last March, with the show landing a formal series order in November. Based on the video game of the same name, the series takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Ramsey) out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
Torv will appear as Tess, a smuggler and hardened survivor in a post-pandemic world.
