Following the departure of sisters Misa and Maiya Tanaka on last week's The Amazing Race premiere, ten teams remain in the running to scoop the $$1 million prize. We're still in Argentina as Rachel & Dave depart first, being instructed to drive to Cafayate Town Square where a mounted postman will deliver their next clue. They know they have a target on their back but are comforted by the security of the Express Pass - although they vow not to use it unless absolutely necessary. > Read Digital Spy's full The Amazing Race headlines As it turns out, their lead means absolutely nothing when they discover the postman won't arrive until sunrise, giving the rest of the teams time to catch up with them. That gives us enough time to learn federal agents Nary & Jamie are continuing to tell the other teams they are kindergarten teachers, and clown Dave (more)...

Misa and Maiya Tanaka had the final Top 10 spot locked up on The Amazing Race 20. After engineering yet another comeback, the sisters were 80 yards from the Pit Stop — except they inexplicably missed seeing Phil Keoghan, the Pit Stop greeter and the production team. While they frantically searched the grounds of the Patios de Cafayate winery in Salta, Argentina, friends Joey "Fitness" and Danny checked in. Months later, they still can't explain completely how they didn't see Keoghan, but they tried their best below.

The Amazing Race Review, Season 20, Episode 1, “Tears of a Clown”
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
One of the most intriguing aspects of The Amazing Race is the extensive game design required to keep the teams moving through the planned course. The right combination of clues, transportation, and tasks can provide great drama and an exciting finish. If the leg is created poorly, however, teams become spread out and can fail based on random events. The trick is keeping everyone close while offering them a chance to pull ahead. The 20th season begins with a well-designed leg that gives the trailing teams a shot at survival. The master stroke is placing the empanada-making contest right near the Pit Stop. This task requires skill and takes a long time to complete, so even teams that fall behind can change their position by blowing through the challenge. It also increases the...

"The Amazing Race" (Sun., 8 p.m. Est on CBS) returned Sunday night for an incredible 20th season and it had all the essential ingredients for a classic race: Phil Keoghan in tight pants, clowns, raised eyebrows and an epic blunder that cost one team the race.
Sisters Misa and Maiya Tanaka made "Tar" history by being the first team to be eliminated after getting lost within feet of the finish mat.
The women made it all the way from Santa Barbara, California to the pit stop in Argentina but somehow managed to not see Phil and the welcoming committee standing right in front of them.
Passing within feet of the mat the sisters just kept running as a puzzled Phil asked, "where are they going?"
As the increasingly frustrated sisters ran around the gardens, self-proclaimed guidos Joey Lasalla and Danny Horal arrived in last place and then overtook them.

The critical success of a season of The Amazing Race can't be determined after just one episode. Many of the teams' personalities will not come out for several legs. Similarly, future legs could be extremely dramatic or interesting, altering our opinion of the season.
So it may be too early to pass judgement, but what fun is waiting for all the facts? Let's dive right in!
The leg itself was fairly standard. There was a fun wrinkle at the Roadblock where the language of the clue fooled the teams in to having the 'wrong' person perform the skydive, but ironically it was the person actually selected for the Roadblock that ended up costing Misa and Maiya and Joey and Dan time. Not the partner duped in to skydiving.
Interestingly, it was those two teams who were last two to finish the leg. A finish that was equally as pathetic as...

"The Amazing Race" kicked off its 20th season in Santa Barbara, Calif., and headlining the cast are former "Big Brother" contestants Brendon Villegas and Rachel Reilly. They came right out of the chute with "Nobody comes between me and my million dollars." Sigh.
The first challenge involved pulling down small hot air balloons until they found one of 11 clues, which sent them to Santa Barbara, Argentina. Once there, Rachel got to go skydiving and proclaimed herself "the luckiest person in the world." We cannot argue with that, but we think we mean it differently than she does.
Brendon also decides he hates the men who work for the Border Patrol because he's half Mexican.
Following the skydiving, the teams had to craft 120 empanadas, with two very different pinching techniques. Brendon and Rachel were very good at it, which he surprisingly does not say is because he's half Mexican.

Amazing Race 20 Preview
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Premieres on February 19
After barely surviving its early days, The Amazing Race is entering its 20th season. This is a remarkable feat for what began as a low-key antidote to other reality series. The formula has been tinkered with over the years (sometimes to its detriment), but the basic structure remains the same. Eleven teams of two journey around the world and compete for one million dollars. New Zealander Phil Keoghan has hosted since the beginning, and he provides a friendly presence to explain the tasks and greet the teams. It’s an effective set-up for tense drama and great entertainment with the right cast. Each season’s success or failure may come down to chance, but interesting players is the key factor.
After stumbling with the mediocre “Unfinished Business” season last spring, The Amazing Race rebounded nicely in the fall.
