- First female US cabinet secretary. Appointed secretary of labor by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Term of office: 4 March 1933-30 June 1945.
- Legally changed her name to Frances Perkins.
- Refused to use her husband's last name as her own.
- Inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 1982.
- Inducted into the US Department of Labor's Hall of Fame in 1989.
- Being the first female member of a Presidential cabinet, she is the first female in the Presidential line-of-succession (albeit, her position Secretary of Labor was then dead-last place at the time).
