Maitham Al Musawi is an Omani filmmaker, born 19th of April 1986 in
Sultanate of Oman, Muscat. He is a graduate of Oman Medical College and
working for the Ministry of Health as an orthopedic surgeon. He started
writing, directing and editing home made films in 2004 and was met with
great support from his family and friends. He got his first big break
when his first film "Reminiscence", a short horror film, won the 4th
best film in the 2nd edition of Sheikh Majid Youth Media Awards in
Dubai. In March 2011, his action/comedy short film "Adventure Lab" won
the Encouragement Award in the 5th Oman Film Concourse. His next
project was a short adventure/drama short called "Raneen"."Raneen" was
selected for Gulf Film Festival and many film festivals around Asia.
Raneen won the Special Jury Award in the Emarati Film Competition
category at Abu Dhabi Film Festival. It went on to win three awards in
the 7th Muscat International Film Festival including: Best Scenario,
Best Actor and Best Film thus winning the Golden Dagger Award in the
Omani Short Narrative category. Raneen was awarded an honorable mention
at The International Film Festival for Peace Inspiration & Equality,
making it the only Arab film to win this year. Maitham's latest film is
"Popcorn" which was screened in Gulf Film Festival and Arab Film
Festival in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose and Berkely, USA.
