Bobby Ashley, a Brooklyn native, found solace in writing stories to escape the challenges of his neighborhood. Despite facing adversity, including bullying and family struggles, Bobby pursued his passion for filmmaking. He wrote, directed, and produced his first short film, "Thicker Than Water," during high school. Though initially hindered by academic setbacks, Bobby persevered and earned a place in Brooklyn College's renowned film program.
At 20, Bobby's short film "Positive" garnered attention for promoting HIV awareness in the Black community. As a junior, he independently launched the digital urban soap opera "The Ave," which achieved remarkable success with over 5 million streams and availability in 100 countries and languages. Bobby co-created the critically acclaimed series "Single Man Problems," gaining a Pre-Daytime Emmy nomination and licensing by Here TV. He was honored by the Robin Hood Foundation and showcased his Alma mater, Guttman Community College.
Today, "The Ave" streams on TUBI, and Bobby has re imagined "Single Man Problems" into a feature-length series called "Single Man Problems: Volume One." With a commitment to reshaping the narrative for black and brown LGBT+ individuals, Bobby's authentic storytelling voice continues to captivate audiences and challenge societal norms.
