Exclusive: Ellen Pompeo is embarking on a producing career. The Grey’s Anatomy star has launched her own shingle, Calamity Jane, which has sold its first project to ABC. The untitled drama, which has received a script commitment, is being written by Mike Sussman, co-creator of TNT’s upcoming drama series Perception starring Eric McCormack. The drama is partially based on Laura Blumenfeld’s June article in Elle Magazine about the female agents on the Secretary Of State’s security detail. Navy SEALs seem to be the government-employed badasses of the moment, with Kathryn Bigelow, Peter Berg and maybe even Disney all telling stories about the kind of elite soldiers who took down Osama bin Laden. But there are plenty of more awesome, fearless people protecting us at home too, and you know what never goes out of style? Dark suits and sunglasses. Possibly with that in mind, Universal is now working on a story that's about the Secret Service; according to Deadline they've optioned Laura Blumenfeld's Washington Post cover story, in which she went through the Secret Service training program herself. The film, which will be adapted by Greg Poirier, will follow a group of recruits who join the program to become agents; hearing that concept I'm very, very tempted to call it "Grey's Anatomy with guns," but it seems only fair to assume at this point it will...

Despite being one of the better-known branches of law enforcement in the world, the life of Secret Service members is said to not be nearly as exciting as you may imagine. While it likely beats most jobs in terms of thrills, I’ve heard that the actual work done doesn’t involve a lot of real action. Protecting the President of the United States is one of the biggest tasks you can ever be given, sure, but much of the job involves walking with them from place to place; that’s not great material for a story.
Which is why I’m a little perplexed to see that Universal is planning to make a film about the group, as Deadline reports. Based on the Washington Post Magazine article The Making of an Agent by Laura Blumenfeld, the script is being written by Greg Porier. He doesn’t have the most...

One of the many things I would have liked to do in my life is to become a Secret Service agent. And who's to say I'm not? For all you know this whole movie blogging thing is just my cover. Of course I couldn't tell you anyway because it would be a secret, so I guess you'll never know unless my cover is blown, and my cover can't be blown if I'm not a secret service agent.
So, Universal Pictures is in the process of developing a reality-based action film centered around the recruitment and training of Secret Service agents. The story will come from a cover story in the Washington Post written by Laura Blumenfeld. The studio optioned this story and hired Greg Poirier (The Spy Next Door and National Treasure: Book of Secrets) to write the script.
Blumenfeld actually went through the secret service training program so she could write her article,...

Universal Pictures is developing a reality-based action film centered around the recruitment and training of Secret Service agents. The studio has optioned a cover story in the Washington Post Magazine by Laura Blumenfeld, and set Greg Poirier to write the script. Poirier's work includes The Spy Next Door and National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and he is writing the Ashley Judd-starrer Missing for ABC. Double Feature Films partners Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher will produce. Blumenfeld went through the training program to write her article and it included shooting weapons, hand-to-hand combat, psychological and other training methods. The Secret Service differs from most law-enforcement branches in that applicants don't need a law enforcement background to apply. That lends an everyman aspect to a film that will follow a group of aspirants who go through the training program to become agents. There hasn't been a good Secret Service agent movie...

Wall Street bailout pic came about when Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban's 2929 Entertainment optioned the rights to Laura Blumenfeld's article focusing on Tarp mastermind Neel Kashkari. Kashkari, a top official under then-Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, aided in developing the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program. This bailed out the big banks following the economic collapse in 2008. Later, Kashkari left Washington and shacked up in a Northern California isolated cabin...
