Former Disney India head and leading producer Siddharth Roy Kapur has warned of some practices that could arise in making films for streamers.
Delivering the keynote address at the Jio Mami Mumbai Film Festival’s Industry Connect Symposium on Monday, Kapur, who is currently basking in the success of International Emmy nominated series “Rocket Boys” for streamer SonyLIV, lauded the positives brought to the industry by the platforms but also pointed out the pitfalls.
Speaking about films made for theatrical release, Kapur said that while the recoupment for them in the government funded European industries might be a Cannes slot, in India it is monetary as well. “I have to say that at times, we shy away from it. And we say that it’s cinema, it’s art, why should one really have to look at that if you’re trying to make arthouse or independent movies? But I...

Amid speculations that he might be summoned by the Narcotics Control Bureau (Ncb) for questioning in the investigation over Bollywood-drugs links, filmmaker Karan Johar on Friday released a statement saying all allegations against him are false. The Dharma Productions owner in his statement also claimed that he neither consumes narcotics nor promotes or encourages consumption of any such substance.
The statement read as under:
Certain news channels, print/ electronic media and social media platform(s) are wrongly and misleadingly reporting that narcotics were consumed at a party that I, Karan Johar hosted on July 28, 2019 at my residence.
I had already clarified my position way back in 2019 that the allegations were false.
In view of the current malicious campaign, I am reiterating that the allegations are completely baseless and false. No narcotics substance was consumed in the party. I Would Like To Unequivocally Once Again State That I Do Not Consume...

In what looks like more trouble for the biggest names in Bollywood, the Narcotics Control Bureau (Ncb) could summon several top actors, directors and producers of tinsel town for questioning. The development comes when Siromani Akali Dal (Sad) leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa has claimed that the drug law enforcement agency is set to summon filmmaker Karan Johar soon in a drug-related case.
Sirsa had filed a complaint with the Ncb chief Rakesh Asthana last week over the alleged drug party hosted at Johar's residence in 2019 where several top actors were in attendance including Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Varun Dhawan, Ranbir Kapoor, Malaika Arora and several others.
Sirsa took to twitter and wrote, "Sources have told me that Karan Johar is soon going to be summoned by the Ncb. He will be questioned about the 2019 drug party."
However, Ncb officials remained tight-lipped in response to queries sent by Ians.
