Melissa Leu is a senior majoring in print and digital journalism and
minoring in communication design at the University of Southern
California. She is pursuing a journalism fellowship with the Franklin
Center for Government & Public Integrity in Springfield, Illinois,
where she is working as a reporter for Illinois Statehouse News.
Over the years, she's discovered that her primary passion remains in storytelling. Whether it be through writing or film, upon graduation, she hopes to continue to share compelling stories about important issues.
She is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. Her first film, "A Family Portrait," has played in numerous film festivals, schools, and community events throughout the country. It has won multiple awards, including Best Documentary at IndieFest USA and a Gold Remi Award at WorldFest Houston International Film Festival, an award previously given to filmmakers Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and the Coen Brothers. "A Family Portrait" has since been acquired for distribution by the Documentary Channel.
