The Roku Channel got its first three Emmy nominations this morning — two for Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas and another for Bill Burr’s Immoral Compass.
2022 Emmy Nominations: Deadline’s Complete Coverage
Zoey’s was commissioned as an original by the streaming outlet last year and streamed during the holiday season, along with past seasons of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, which was canceled by NBC. The high-spirited musical drama, which features elaborate song-and-dance sequences, was nominated for Outstanding Television Movie and also for choreography by Mandy Moore and Jillian Meyers. (Moore partisans had been disappointed earlier in the day when the star missed out on an acting nom for the final season of This Is Us.) Along with Lionsgate, the nominations cite Universal Music Group, FeigCo and The Tannenbaum Company as stakeholders in the movie.

Not only did we get more Zoey’s after Playlist was canceled by NBC following its second season, but the Roku movie Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas has nominated for two Emmys! In addition to the nomination for Best TV Movie, part of what makes Zoey’s so good — the performances — was recognized with a nomination for Best Choreography (for Mandy Moore and Jillian Meyers). “It really feels like a nice validation of all the hard work we put in, so we’re all really thrilled,” creator and writer Austin Winsberg tells TV Insider of the nominations. He shares more below. Congratulations! Talk about the moment you found out. Austin Winsberg: My wife and I were in bed and we were trying to update Deadline and figure out when it was gonna be announced and we couldn’t figure out when we were actually gonna see the categories. Choreographer Mandy Moore is — like many — lamenting the cancellation of NBC’s “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” — the musical comedy about a young woman (Jane Levy) struggling with her ability to process people’s inner thoughts through pop songs — especially after a highly acclaimed second season that tackled pressing topics such as systemic racism, postpartum depression and the sticky nature of office politics.
Moore not only got dancing feet racing through tunes by Queen, Gwen Stefani and Sixpence None the Richer, but this year also marked her directorial debut in scripted television. (She also serves as a show producer.) The three-time Emmy winner chatted with TheWrap about her storied career, why The Big Night never gets old and how the creators of “Zoey” truly do constitute an Egot.
Thank you so much for chatting. It’s probably a very bittersweet time for you right now.

Meet the artisans behind the best looks, VFX, lenses and designs in film and TV in the last year, from sci-fi to contemporary productions, these behind the scenes craftspeople add dimensions and layers to the directors’ vision.
Mandy Moore
Showrunner Austin Winsberg found in Moore a choreographer who took his concept of a woman who can hear people’s innermost thoughts in song and give it kinetic life and depth. One particularly powerful segment involved the Deaf West Theater, which signed “Fight Song” while dancing in a university library. “The biggest challenge for me was determining how cinematic dance and movement would be used as a vehicle for storytelling. Dance would not just be a visual spectacle on ‘Zoey’s,’ we would use dance to evoke emotion and further explain what a character is feeling,” says Moore, who earned an Emmy this year for her work on “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
