Michael Tessari is an Australian based Director of Photography. In 2013 Michael was awarded the Cliff Ellis Award for the young cinematographer in the industry showing the most potential. Building upon that acknowledgement, in 2017 Michael had the honour of receiving the prestigious Milton Ingerson Award. This was awarded by the Australian Cinematographers Society for the best entry of the year, across all categories for SA and WA. Michael followed that success as the Director of Photography on the $2.7M feature film Awoken. Awoken was released theatrically in Australia and internationally in 2020 and earned Michael a Gold Award at the Australian Cinematographers Society awards. Awoken was one of three Gold Awards he received that year and contributed to him landing the role as DOP on South Australia's first ever Netflix production in 2021.
The 10 part Netflix original series Gymnastics Academy was released in 2022 and trended at number 1 across 14 countries. 2022 also saw Michael's next film, the thriller, Monolith headlining the Adelaide Film Festival and being selected for the SXSW Film Festival. Monolith was also nominated for the prestigious SXSW Grand Jury prize for its cinematography.
In 2023 Michael has been attached to the horror film Diabolic slated to begin production early in the year and the Tasmanian based film, Devil Inside slated for June.
