Walter Escamilla is a filmmaker based in Bogotá with 15 years experience in production of film, TV and branded content. From a young age he showed great interest in painting and drawing which led him to study a bachelor's degree in Visual Arts at Pontifical Javeriana University. In his second year at art school he discovered filmmaking and since then he embarked in a journey of experimentation and creative production reaching recognition by global media outlets.
In 2008 he started his career as a film editor leading to numerous credits in the editorial department of TV series, including the drama series 'Mental', produced by Fox Television Studios and 'Shark Tank Mexico', produced by Sony Pictures Television. In 2012 he co-founded MONARCA, a creative production company that specializes in branded content, film and artistic media. It was at MONARCA that he shifted his professional focus to producing and directing, with his extensive work being featured by media giants like Netflix, Max, Warner Music and global brands like Visa, Hasbro and Stella Artois, among others.
As a filmmaker he directed his first short film 'Video Pulso' in 2008 which was selected by local film festivals including FICCI 2009. In 2020 he produced the dance film 'Ímpeto' to international acclaim and selection by festival programmers in the US and Europe. It was awarded Best Experimental Short at Hollywood Shortfest and Best Production Design at Experimental, Dance & Music Film Festival.
In 2021 he directed the short documentary 'Codex', commissioned by Christian Berst Gallery in Paris. In 2022 he directed and produced the music video 'Where Tears, Perhaps' for the indie noise rock band Pleura. 'Where Tears, Perhaps' was selected into numerous international film festivals, winning Best Music video at the 9th Music Film Festival in Argentina and at the New Creators Film Awards in Paris. In 2023 he wrote and produced the short documentary 'Cocaine Hippos' distributed by the streaming platform WaterBear.
