- Producer/director Katherine Nilsen was born in Seattle, Washington and raised on Whidbey Island. Prior to attending college, Katherine studied cinema, editing, and corporate media in Seattle at Reel Grrls Film Studio. Before graduating high school, Nilsen wrote, directed, and edited three award-winning shorts: "While We're Asleep", "Becoming Cephalopod", and "Sweet Citizen".
Upon high school graduation and studying abroad in Thailand, Nilsen dedicated two years to investigative documentation and volunteer work abroad. She returned to the United States in 2013 to attend the Los Angeles Film Festival to view the screening of her thesis short "While We're Asleep" before beginning college. She completed degrees in Critical Film Studies, Film & Television Production, Broadcasting, Communications, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Public Policy at Santa Monica College.
Her first editorial work upon transplanting to Los Angeles was at UCLA School of Theatre, Film and Television as an apprentice to documentary filmmaker Kristy Guevara-Flanagan on the post-production of "What Happened to Her". Nilsen is currently developing trans-media studio projects in addition to organizing VR-inspired global experiential endeavors and permaculture design projects.
