Exclusive: After acclaimed and sold-out runs in London and New York, current-events-based play The Jungle will have its West Coast premiere at the storied Curran Theater in San Francisco this spring.
Carole Shorenstein Hays and Sonia Friedman Productions with Tom Kirdahy made the announcement. The Jungle was written by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson and is directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin.
The Good Chance Theatre, National Theatre and Young Vic production dramatizes the conditions and cross-cultural blending of refugees from various nations at a sprawling camp in Calais, France, known as the Jungle. The immersive production brings the audience close to the men, women and children fleeing war and persecution as they form unlikely bonds and find warmth despite the dangerous and squalid setting.

The Tony Award-winning Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has set a West Coast premiere for fall 2019 at San Francisco’s Curran theatre. The staging will mark the fourth production of the play following London, New York and a planned engagement for Melbourne, Australia.
The San Francisco production will mark a collaboration between the Curran and Ambassador Theatre Group, with Atg leading the operation of the theatre during the production’s run.
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, who announced the production, said in a joint statement, “The beautiful and historic Curran in San Francisco is the perfect theatre for the next North American company of Cursed Child. We are delighted that Atg and Carole Shorenstein Hays have worked their magic to provide the ideal West Coast home for the production.”

At a live event on stage at the Curran this evening, Carole Shorenstein Hays announced the entire inaugural season of her newly reopened and reconceived Curran Theater. Curran2018, as the season is dubbed, will include the Tony Award-winning musical, Dear Evan Hansen, as well as three bold new works Soft Power, Taylor Mac's Holiday Sauce, and the pre-Broadway engagement of Head Over Heels. In addition to these four anticipated productions, Curran's popular series of one-night-only events, Show amp Tell, will continue with an allstar line-up. Season subscriptions are now on sale.
