Hughes was born in Chicago, Illinois. She has lived on the west coast and in Las Vegas, Nevada, but spends most of her time in the Midwest where she writes and publishes fiction novels and children's books. Her mother Janice Brent (deceased) worked for the Department of Labor and her father, professional musician Willie Hughes, was a singer and bassist for the singing group Second Wind (Motown Review)
Ms. Erica Hughes began a screenwriting career in earnest, working as a ghost writer for several projects and eventually started Screenwritersdaily.com in 2003 where she provided consulting and promotion for writers and clients in film and publishing. From 2012 to 2017, Hughes taught publishing at Madison College in Madison, WI and appeared as a guest speaker at seminars and events where she lectured on marketing and publishing books. (2017 - ) Hughes serves as the President of a publishing company that publishes hundreds of fiction, nonfiction, and children's books annually, working with authors across the United States and all over the world.
In 2010, Hughes moved into live action feature films, working with Crystal Diane Stevens of "Organized Criminal" (the movie), and Trendy Pictures as an associate producer. She often collaborated with Safo Kennedy of "When Thugs Cry". Hughes later released the experimental animated project, 2020 AD. one of the first commercially released feature-length "Machinima" animated movies on the market. (Machinima uses real-time video game rendering technology to animate movies). Hughes is also a voice actress. Hughes adopted film editing into her film repertoire while working for Sony's video and audio editing software division from 2006 to 2009.
