(January 1988 - July 1997) Adjudicated Newspaper, "The Valley Vantage," Superior Court Decree No. SFC 858 - Editor and owner - Along with her husband,
Mike Cartel, Mari Cartel ran a community newspaper for 10 years, featuring celebrity interviews and outrageous Mad Magazine-style satire. Aside from the popular lampooning, the weekly was honored (in 1988) by the L.A. City Council and Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley "for its outstanding community service," and "encouraging public awareness and action on matters of serious social implication." The Cartels finally realized a considerable profit when they sold their publication at the end of the tabloid era. Just in time.
