Matthew Altman(I)
- Writer
Born and raised in New York city, Matt's love of reading, martial arts,
comics, and movies started at a very young age. By the time he went to
Stuyvesant High school, he'd already gotten his first black belt, and
knew he wanted to be a writer. He went to Suny Albany where he
graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the Honor's English
program. He worked in theater on Broadway doing lights like his father
and worked on such shows as Les Miserables at the Imperial, Nine with
Antonio Benderas at the Neil Simon, and South Pacific at the Vivian
Beaumont theater, while writing in his spare time and honing his craft.
A third Dan Black belt in Tae Kwan Do and 5th Dan Black Belt in Chinese
Hawaiian Kenpo, Matt placed in the top 30 semifinals of the Nicholl
fellowship in 2008, and was a top 4 finalist in the horror Slamdance
competition in 2010, a finalist in American Zoetrope, Script Pipeline,
Creative world Awards and Page International Awards. In January 2011,
through the encouragement of his manager, Matt moved to LA and has been
a full time writer out here ever since.
