A prolific writer, screenwriter, producer and composer, two times LA-Treasures awardee, Durfee Foundation Fellow, and CalArts scholar, Jagan Ramamoorthy was born in a traditional, musical-lineage and heritage oriented Tanjore family of musicians and scholars. His Grandmother initiated Jagan into the art of violin playing at an early age of seven. Subsequently, Jagan continued his training in Indian classical music under his father's tutelage in Jabalpur. Later, Jagan had the unique opportunity to advance his knowledge and repertoire with renowned musical icons and scholars at the Banaras Hindu University. Later, Jagan became a composer-performer at Prasar Bharti, Hyderabad. After his sixteen-year stint with the esteemed scholars and other geniuses at Prasar Bharati who mentored Jagan in subjects such as Radio Drama, Writing and Composing for the Broadcasting Corporation of India, Jagan's appetite for knowledge was truly insatiable. Jagan chose to travel to the United States odd America, to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree at at the legendary Walt Disney's renowned California Institute of the Arts, (AKA CalArts) in Los Angeles. Jagan was also honored with the Durfee Master Fellowship program in 2006 and 2007., and later awarded the L.A Treasures honors (In 2004 and 2007) for cultural heritage and excellence in arts. Jagan was then tapped to compose and provide his specialty (classical genre) in Indian music for top- tier composers in Hollywood. Jagan's entry in Hollywood was with his violin solo for ace director ANG LEE's HULK-a Universal Pictures blockbuster in 2003. The iconic composer Danny Elfman, (The Simpsons & the Spiderman trilogy fame) instantly loved Jagan's musical talents. Jagan's career progressed steadily in the next two decades. Jagan has since collaborated with A-List producers, directors,and composers such as Ang Lee, Danny Elfman, John Madden, Albert Brookes, Sam Raimi, Christopher Young, Roger Young, Michael Giacchino, Thomas Newman, and Harry Gregson Williams. Jagan also received hands-on training and mentoring in screenwriting and storytelling in the classical Joseph Campbell, Robert McKee, Blake Schneider, and John Truby's genres under the tutelage of renowned directors and producers. Currently, Jagan is busy as a producer, composer and writer for a feature film trilogy: "THE LAST CIRCLE" and many other projects. Jagan has successfully created a team of 25 creative talents, film and television executives, who represent the INDIE genre of filmmakers in Hollywood. Jagan is now also expanding his collaborations in the Bollywood and South Indian film and television industries for Indian dialects based feature film stories, screenplays and network television pilots. However, Jagan still prefers to maintain the Hollywood industry's methodology, structure and templates for his writing works and projects.
