- He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from New York University in New York City.
- He got his first radio job in 1947 at WHBI in Newark, New Jersey; WNJR in Newark, New Jersey; and host of the Kit Cat Club in the 1950s and 1960s. He also worked as a disc jockey for WVNJ in Newark, New Jersey and WEVD in New York City. He also worked for WNYC in New York City; WNSW; WJDM, and WPAT.
- He died at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He was interred at Beth David Cemetery in Kenilworth, New Jersey.
- He resided in Short Hills, New Jersey for the last 40 years until his death. He was a radio personality in New York City and New Jersey for 64 years.
- He is survived by his son, Gary Russell; Leonard Russell; and Howard Russell and his wife Laura. Brother of Joseph Silberg and the the late Morris Silberg and Milton Silberg; Grandfather of Alexandra, Blake, and Barbara.
