María Mera Constenla (as her full name goes) was born on August the 10th 1986 in Boqueixón, a municipality in the south of the province A Coruña, in the autonomous community of Galicia. She is an actress in TV series, (short) films and theatre and she hosts television shows.

She studied Dramatic Art at the Santiago de Compostela Theatre School (2004-2007) but also Tourism and she has a degree in Journalism from the University Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid (2009-2013). In addition to her Dramatic Art Study she followed several courses on specific topics such as a course in Interpretation in Front of the Camera (2011, by Nathan Carter), a course in Vocal Technique and Spoken Voice (2011, by Ramón Bermejo) and a Interpretation Course at the William Layton Theatre Laboratory (2007, by Carola Manzanares). At the latter she even did a Clown Course (2007, by Gabriel Chamé)! In the beginning of her career she combined tourism jobs with those of an actress for quite some time. She speaks Galician, Spanish, Portuguese and English and she plays guitar.

In 2007 she had a small role in the TV series Libro de Familia (this Galician TV series was broadcasted from 2005 until 2013) but she achieved recognition in Spain as Vanessa Viaño Ugarte in the TV series Matalobos (2009-2013). She played the role of a complicated daughter of two other main characters in the series (Pepe and Lola) who got into drugs quite young, married, got a son, lost her husband due to his suicide in prison and who had several relationships with other men after that event. In 2015 she played the role of Julia in El desconocido, a Spanish action thriller directed by Dani de la Torre. In 2016 she played a role in the film Julieta, directed by the famous Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar. In 2018 she played the main character of Rosa Vargas, a rookie lieutenant of the Guardia Civil, in the Galicia TV series O Sabor das Margaridas, the first series in Galician for Netflix which also meant the first real introduction to an international audience of María Mera.

María Mera married in 2015 -after first having a relationship of three years- with Ghaleb Jaber Martínez in an open-air civil wedding in the Galicia town of A Baña. The Spanish actor Denis Gómez -with whom she worked together in O Sabor das Margaridas- was master of ceremonies. The ceremony included the Arabic rite of dates and milk as a nod to the groom's roots who is from Palestinian (father) and Venezuelan (mother) descent. María and Ghaleb have two daughters: Dalia (born on ?) and Lila (born on February 4th, 2019).
