Ben Mehlman is a filmmaker with a passion for Trojan horsing important social discussions into fun and digestible genre stories. Whether that means using horror to tackle the struggles of mental health or using the crime genre to look at our political and socio-economic landscapes. His neo-noir thriller, Whittier, made the 2021 Annual Black List and his supernatural horror script, Homeward, was a 2023 ScreenCraft Fellowship Finalist and a 2024 ScreenCraft Horror Semifinalist.
Ben is an alumnus of the Black List Feature Lab, where he was mentored by Beau Willimon & Jack Thorne. He's also a three-time Cannes Writers Residency finalist, a MGM Feature Partnership finalist, a Nicholl Quarterfinalist, and a finalist for $15,000 grant, sponsored by The Black List and Hornito's Tequila.
Outside of writing, Ben directs shorts and music videos, including "Terminal" by Cuffed Up, who are managed by Roc Nation.
