P-Star Rising, an inspirational story of the musical ambitions of a young girl and her father, was a big hit at the Tff 2009 Drive-In, where the movie screened and P-Star performed before an audience of thousands. It was a much more intimate crowd last Monday night at Tribeca Cinemas, where Gabriel Noble's film kicked off the Tribeca Cinemas Doc Series. (If you missed P-Star Rising, you can catch it February 9 on PBS.) During the Q and A after the film, Priscilla Star and her father Jesse Diaz were on hand, as were director Noble and producer Marjan Tehrani. A "fearless" and radiant Priscilla handled the crowd with aplomb, and an apparent maturity beyond her years. When asked about life after the movie, she explained, "I write music now. I write for other people. The music I am doing now is commercial, crossover music--dance, hiphop, pop, put together--it's all about publishing now.
