- In 1996, he ran as an official escort runner for the Olympic torch, as it made its way through Miami Beach.
- Steve spent a semester as Paul Shaffer's intern at Late Night With David Letterman.
- Since 2001, has served as the only chaplain in the history of Florida International University football team.
- As Executive Director of the South Florida based charity, Team Respect, Steve has worked closely with many high school football programs, including Florida high school state champions Miami Norland and Booker T. Washington. Notable high school players who have moved on to the NFL, after working with Steve, include Antwan Barnes, Andre Johnson, Dwayne Bowe, Ed Reed, Najeh Davenport, Atari Bigby, Roscoe Parrish, Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, and Kareem Brown, among others.
- Steve trained as a pro wrestler at Body Slam University, a gym owned by Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, in preparation for a role in a local student film. During the filming, his ribs were broken, but he continued with the fight scenes, still performing his own stunts.
- Fought in the 2002 Golden Gloves in the Super Heavyweight division. Still trains and teaches young boxers in Miami's Overtown community.
