G4, the Comcast Spectacor-owned cable channel dedicated to gaming, has shut down — again.
Dave Scott, the Comcast Spectacor chairman and CEO, broke the news to the G4 staff in a memo circulated on Sunday. (IndieWire obtained the note; it’s posted below.) Comcast Spectacor is the sports- and entertainment-focused subsidiary of Comcast that owns the NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers and used to own the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers. Forty-five staffers at G4 lost their jobs immediately as a result of the decision.
The shutdown comes just under a year since the channel’s relaunch last November. The channel’s relaunch — first announced in July 2020 — followed seven dormant years for the gaming channel, which first began in 2002. The early version of the network was operated by G4 Media, a joint venture between Comcast and NBC Universal Cable.

G4 is shutting down — again.
Comcast Spectacor, the cable and entertainment giant’s sports and esports division, told G4 TV employees Sunday that the gaming network was shutting down effective immediately. The decision has resulted in 45 staff members of G4 TV losing their jobs.
In a memo, obtained by Variety, Comcast Spectacor chairman and CEO Dave Scott cited low viewership and said the network had not achieved “sustainable financial results.”
“Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results,” Scott wrote. “This is certainly not what we hoped for, and, as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately.“
Comcast Spectacor in July 2020 said it would reboot G4 TV, which NBCUniversal shut down in 2013 (after the network first launched in 2002). Russell Arons, the former Warner Bros.,...

A web series that has been in Maker Studios’ developmental pipeline for more than a year has finally arrived. Ithamar Has Nothing To Say, a comedy executive produced by Key & Peele duo Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, is now available on the Maker.TV platform.
Ithamar Has Nothing To Say is based off the wordless comedy act of its star, Ithamar Enriquez. In the six-part series, Ithamar comes to the United States and interacts with the locals. The result is a slapstick offering that is somewhere between a Mr. Bean episode and a satire of American culture.
As with other series distributed by Maker Studios, Ithamar Has Nothing To Say features many guest appearances from the network’s creative partners. YouTube stars who show up in the first episode include Kassem G and EpicLloyd. Key and Peele are in there too, as a pair of talent agents who evaluate Ithamar’s act.

For the first time in nearly eight months, Kassem Gharaibeh (known online as Kassem G) has released a new video on his YouTube channel. In a very special episode of his web series California On, Kassem heads to the woods to search for the legendary Sasquatch.
The documentary is titled California On Sasquatch: A Not Finding Bigfoot Special, and at more than 30 minutes in length, it's the longest video Kassem has ever released on his YouTube channel. It begins with some of California On's typical man-on-the-street interview segments before Kassem takes a trip to Pocatello, Idaho, where he and local resident ShayCarl visit a man who collects Bigfoot relics. In the third section of the video, Kassem and his team of not-quite-experts (including YouTube content creator Rawn "HiImRawn" Erikson) venture into the woods, where they hope to catch sight of the legendary cryptid.

Fresh off a $4 million investment round led by AMC, DanceOn has announced a third season of its most popular web series, D-Trix Presents Dance Showdown. In addition to a new judge, nine new creators will join the show as contestants in YouTube's version of Dancing With The Stars. The season three contestants will put on their dancing shoes to see who can follow Prank vs. Prank's season two victory and take home $50,000. The nine creators who will bust a move are Lindsey Stirling, MysteryGuitarMan, Sam Pepper and Lancifer, Steve Kardynal, Strawburry17, Egoraptor, GlamLifeGuru, and Macbby11. These bigshots will be paired with professional dancers who will guide their partners through the competition. Honestly, does Lindsey Stirling really need a partner to teach her how to dance? DanceOn has posted a teaser asking viewers to guess the contestants. Ummm...I guess we kind of just spoiled that. Sorry, everybody. D-Trix will return as host,...
