Despite the 1982 season being shortened due to a players strike, Jeris White told Redskins team officials that he wanted a new contract for 1983, and was willing to hold out the season if need be. The Redskins, worried about replacing one of their best cover corners, drafted a then little known player out of Texas A & I named Darrell Green. White, in camp late and out of shape, lost his starting job to Green, and never again played for the Redskins. Green went on to have a hall of fame career.
