In 2023, Pickering won Best Actress at New York Women in Film Festival, Los Angeles film Awards, and The Actors Awards for her film work on Diva. In 2024 she was nominated for best performance of the year at The Actors Awards.
As an actress, Joanna has worked worldwide on over 30 independent films from a Danny Boyle movie to starring in a lead role with A-list star Alice Eve, and working alongside Blanche Baker (Handmaid's Tale) and William Sadler (Shawshank Redemption) as well as for TV, radio and stage. She trained in Method Acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute
Her stage play Bad Victims, in which she performed the lead role, sold out at The Courtyard Theatre in London for two consecutive runs in 2022 and 2023, directed by Erica Gould (Neil Labute/Theresa Rebeck) starring Pickering and Richard Emerson (West End Chess, ENO Coliseum). The Endgame, also starring Pickering, premiered off-Broadway at New Perspectives Theatre Company, in 2022, directed by Illana Stein (award winning best director) before moving to Paris at The Big Funk Company. In 2021, Truth, Lies and Deceptions, played to sold out audiences at Le Pave D'Orsay Theatre in Paris, with Pickering performing a lead role and receiving national press.
Pickering published her Trilogy of Plays: Truth, Lies and Deception with next Stage Press, joining a Tony award-winning roster of writers. Her work debut showcased in US sponsored by The League of Professional Theater Women with TV and Broadway stars, Caroline Aaron (The Marvelous Mrs Maisel) and (The Wonder Years, Lombardi's) Dan Lauria.
Her first debut play Beach Break was awarded a scholarship to adapt to a series with Vice President of HBO's talent acquisition and programming, Kelly Edwards via Rocaberti Writer's Trust and then was adapted to TV series, which in development with academy award winning Bobby Moresco and Amanda Moresco. She was referred to The Actors Gym in New York, 2020 and is she a proud member.
Pickering is also a member of The Actor's Studio Playwright Directors Unit, Theatre 68, The Actors Gym, The International Centre Of Women Playwrights, The League of Professional Female Playwrights, NPTC's Women's Work LAB.
