With contributions from actor Dennis Haysbert, the new feature documentary from filmmaker Travolta Cooper, titled "The Black Moses" opens in New York City and Nassau, Bahamas today. A film previously profiled on this site, "The Black Moses" tells the story of the life and times of L.O. Pindling (Sir Lynden Oscar Pindling), the first black Prime Minister of the Bahamas. Pindling is regarded as the "Father" of the Bahamas, having led it to independence in 1973. Top brass at the 10th Bahamas International Film Festival (Biff) have announced the full programme ahead of the opening night on December 5.
Andrew Melby and Reggie Henderson’s drama Bahamian Son (pictured) is the Opening Night Film and will kick off the Festival and Travolta Cooper’s documentary The Black Moses will close out the event on December 13.
All in all the festival will present 108 films from 32 countries including four world premieres. Every screening is a Bahamian premiere.
The four competition categories are Spirit Of Freedom: Narrative, Spirit Of Freedom: Documentary, New Visions nand Short Film. Non-competitive categories are Panorama Narrative, Documentary and Short Films.
Special sections include the Youth Film Workshop films made by five schools as well as a World Cinema showcase spotlighting Chinese cinema provided by the Chinese Embassy in The Bahamas.
