Blur/Gorillaz mastermind Damon Albarn will be lending his talents to a work his sister created -- a short film based on the children's book "The Boy in the Oak," by Jessica Albarn. Jude Law is narrating the fairytale and Pitchfork reports that commercial/music video director Luke Losey is directing.
The book is about a little boy who is "insensitive and cruel. He trampled flowers. He tore limbs off trees and carved his initials into their trunks." In the garden behind the cottage where he lives an old enchanted Oak hides a secret, a group of faeries that plot to punish the boy for his cruelty to nature -- save one kind faerie who believes there may be some good in him.
It will be interesting to hear what kind of score the wildly imaginative Albarn dreams up for this fairytale. The film is expected to screen beginning in Spring.

The latter, an accomplished visual artist, recently released the children's book "The Boy In The Oak" to solid reviews, and it's already making the leap to a film adaptation with some pretty strong talent behind it. Jude Law has stepped up to narrate the forthcoming short film that will be directed by commercial helmer Luke Losey, who has also directed videos for Orbital and Mercury Rev. But the biggest coup? Jessica's brother Damon Albarn, who plays around in a couple of groups…...

What’s brand new, big and British? Why, it’s the first annual London Underground Film Festival, which will run at the infamous Horse Hospital underground screening room on Dec. 4-10.
Seven full days and nights is an exceptionally aggressive schedule for a first time out, but it’s even more impressive once you dig into the variety of films and programs being offered, including lectures, installations and live performances mixed in with feature length films and short film programs.
To help out with such an ambitious project, the London Underground has asked a couple of festival big guns to help them out. First, underground film historian and Program Director of Australia’s Revelation Perth International Film Festival Jack Sargeant has curated a full day of films for Sunday, Dec., all of which have played at Revelation under his watch.
The films Sargeant has picked are Kevin Barker’s The Family Jams,...
