- Anshel Brusilow was born on August 14, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He is known for After the Rain (1988) and Getz: Ravel, Sauter, Wilder, Macero and All That Jazz (1969). He was married to Marilyn Rae Dow. He died on January 16, 2018.

- He taught orchestral music and conducting at North Texas State University (later the University of North Texas). Over three decades he led the orchestral and conducting programs there and at Southern Methodist University.
- At 16, he played solo violin with the Philadelphia Orchestra. He studied at the Curtis Institute of Music, the Philadelphia Musical Academy, and Pierre Monteux's conducting school. He was associate concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra in the late 1950s under George Szell. Then he became concertmaster with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy.
- Philanthropist Theo Pitcairn made it possible for him to own the violin of his choice, a 1743 Guarnerius del Gesu. He sold it in 1968 when he chose conducting over playing; recently the Guarneri was named "The Brusilow.".
