- Alberto Santos Dumont was born on July 20, 1873 in Santos Dumont, Minas Gerais, Brazil. He was a writer, known for Nova (1974), Santos Dumont Explaining His Air Ship to the Hon. C.S. Rolls (1901) and Mutual Weekly, No. 48 (1913). He died on July 23, 1932 in Guarujá, São Paulo, Brazil.
- He created the Airplane and is considered the "father" of the Aviation.
- Though there is a historical rivalry about who is the "father of aviation" between the Wright brothers or Santos Dumont, most sources name Dumont as being the real inventor. The Wright brothers event happened in 1903 but was only seen by a handful of witnesses and unrecorded while Dumont's flight with 14-Bis (on 23 October 1906) was the first powered heavier-than-air flight ever, watched by an enthusiastic crowd in Paris and the flight was registered on camera while Brothers "attempts" was just hearsay. Dumont was portrayed by Daniel de Oliveira in 14 Bis (2006) and João Pedro Zappa in the miniseries Santos Dumont (2019).
