One of the three founding editors (along with Walter Weyl and Herbert Croly) of "The New Republic," which began publication on 11/7/1914.
Awarded two Pulitzer Prizes: a Special Citation for Editorial Comment (1958); and for Distinguished Reporting of International Affairs (1962).
His signature column, "Today and Tomorrow," began publication on September 8, 1931. His final "Today and Tomorrow" column was published on 5/25/67.
