Shantae has to be one of the unlikeliest long-running franchises out there, right? The magical heroine got her start with the original back in 2002, but her debut promptly bombed due to limited supply. The fact that it was released on the Game Boy Color, after the Advance arrived, didn’t help matters either. Despite the critical acclaim, Matt and Erin Bozon’s creation wouldn’t return until 2010 with the equally well-received Risky’s Revenge. After another sequel in 2014, developer WayForward Technologies turned to Kickstarter to fund the next entry in the franchise. It’s been over three years since it was funded, but Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has finally arrived.
Debuting on home consoles for the first time (all three previous entries started as handheld titles), Half-Genie Hero doesn’t stray too far from its roots. Once again the mystical Shantae must save Sequin Land from a colorful cast of villains,...

After already being available for download on nearly every gaming device you can buy, Shovel Knight is finally getting the retail edition that developer Yacht Club Games promised this holiday season. It will, however, come with a number of new surprises and even a few disappointments, the studio has revealed.
It turns out that porting Shovel Knight is taking a bit longer than Yacht Club Games intended and the game is now slated for an October 30th in Europe and November 3rd in North America. Furthermore, hard copies of the game will sell for $24.99, $5 more than their original asking price of $19.99, and they’ll be packaged with a free download of the game’s soundtrack, as composed by Jake Kaufman.
In not so good news, Shovel Knight is now officially in “indefinite limbo” on Xbox One thanks in part to publishing policies allegedly beyond the studio’s control. In the meantime,...

With Duckstales Remastered's release rapidly approaching (it arrives August 13th on PlayStation Network, the Nintendo eShop, and Steam, with the Xbla version showing up on September 11), Capcom has released another "Duckumentary", this one covering the one aspect of the revamp that many diehard fans of the Nes original are most interested in: the music.
The wait is over; the oen which we have all been long waiting for is contained within. That being the remixed, HD version of the iconic moon stage music. And it was most definitely worth the wait:
There is one interesting tidbit that has nothing to do with the music; having the original voice of Scrooge was never part of the original. But once it became an option, WayForward immediately jumped at the chance.
Though the soundtrack is the focus here: composer Jake Kaufman reveals that he envisioned arrangements of the Ducktales Nes...

Squint your eyes a little and Double Dragon: Neon feels a lot like the Double Dragon games from the arcade era--warts and all. The side-scrolling brawler has the same kind of life-eating, punishing difficulty curve of its predecessors, evocatively-designed, challenging enemies, and it's much better when you've got a second player to help you clean up the streets (and places beyond). But some quirks with going co-op aside (this is a strictly local experience until developer WayForward deploys a multiplayer patch), Double Dragon: Neon has flashes of wit and well-designed combat as it homages and sends up past buddy system brawlers.
As ever, the game starts with poor Marian getting gut-punched and hauled away, this time by cackling villain Skullmageddon and it's up to brothers Billy and Jimmy to cross ten levels to get her back. From that brief description, you can see that WayForward wasn't looking to...

WayForward's homage to the 80's beat-'em-up is has a 45-track Ost homage to 80's synth-heavy rock, and you can download that noise for free right now.
The soundtrack is by composer Jake Kaufman and it's a pay-what-you-will deal through Bandcamp. I'd advise you to drop at least a dollar or two into the virtual hat or, you know, don't--no pressure since the developer along with publisher Majesco are just giving it away for free.
You can sample the soundtrack below. My personal favorite so far: "Boss - Skullmageddon."
Double Dragon Neon will be available on Psn and Xbla next week, although PlayStation Plus users can get it for free now.
