After contracting the Zika virus in Venezuela, Detroit Tigers pitcher Francisco Rodriguez is urging athletes to "do their homework" before heading to this summer's Olympic Games. "It's something people have to be careful with and worry about," Rodriguez told Espn.com. "There's no vaccine for it. It's not like you take a shot and [improve]. ... It could be global." Rodriguez is sounding the alarm about Zika after he spent two weeks battling severe headaches, body aches, joint pain and other symptoms while spending the off-season at home in Caracas, Venezuela. He says he thought he was just suffering from a cold until his symptoms quickly worsened.

Forget the Olympics, the Zika virus has already infiltrated Mlb -- with Detroit Tigers pitcher Francisco Rodriguez saying he contracted the virus in Venezuela during the offseason. The 34-year-old revealed his health status to Espn -- saying his symptoms started off almost like a common cold ... but quickly escalated. "It wasn't a cold. A cold, you have a sneeze, have a headache, take a couple Tylenol and you're done. You don't have a cold for two weeks,...

Detroit Tigers closer Francisco Rodriguez said he contracted the Zika virus over the off-season in his home country of Venezuela and advises athletes to educate themselves on the virus before heading to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Zika is a mosquito-borne virus linked to severe birth defects and possible neurological problems in adults. The Mlb star, often known simply as K-Rod, told Espn on Tuesday that he wouldn’t blame athletes for skipping the Olympics. “If they have plans to have kids in the future, you’ve got to think about it,” Rodriguez said. It's a big day in Milwaukee, and not just because Festa Italiana kicks into high gear.
No, it's because Friday is also Bon Iver Day in the Brew City, thanks to an official proclamation from mayor Tom Barrett. It's quite an honor for the Wisconsin-born Justin Vernon, one bestowed upon him in part because — as Barrett's proclamation, uh, proclaims — "Bon Iver's music embraces Justin Vernon's Wisconsin heritage, as he has become an international ambassador for both Milwaukee and Wisconsin."
And while there's no word on just how the city plans on commemorating the day (Vernon will kick off his national tour later tonight with a sold-out show at Milwaukee's Riverside Theatre), we'd like to think they've lined-up a series of Bon Iver-centric events. But just in case they haven't, well, we've gone ahead and done it for them.
Here's how we hope Milwaukee plans on celebrating Bon Iver Day.

Wes Craven must be a fan of method acting, judging from the way he's been treating Hayden Panettiere and Emma Roberts on the "Scream 4" set. He documented his endeavors in a tweet yesterday, but we'll have to wait until the film comes out to see if he helped them get into their parts.
Elsewhere, New York Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez was arrested on Wednesday night. No matter what happens, though, at least one Hollywood writer is sticking up for him. You can find out who that is after the jump, as well as what Arnold Schwarzenegger has been getting up to with the "Expendables" cast and what may have killed "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" director Edgar Wright by the time you read this.

Blame it on the unbelievable injuries, the underachievers, the management, Bernie Madoff, Wayne Hagan, or the rain. It doesn't matter who you point a finger at. When this season finally ends, 2009 will go down as the worst year ever in New York Mets history. That's a bold statement no doubt when you factor in the 1962 season and the entire Vince Coleman firecracker era. But it's true at least when you combine the high hopes for the team before the season started and the fact their new ballpark Citifield just opened. In 1962, nothing was expected and nothing was delivered. In the early 1990s, has-been burnouts took the field, and to no one's surprise, came up Pat Tabler lame. This year, however, with the acquisitions of top relievers Frankie Rodriguez and J.J. Putz, everyone picked the Mets to -- at...
