Wayne Huizenga was born on December 29, 1937 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, USA. He was married to Martha Jean Goldsby and Joyce VanderWagon. He died on March 22, 2018 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA.
Inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2006.
At one time, Huizenga was listed on Forbes Magazine list of the '100 Richest
Americans'.
In 1994, Huizenga bought the Miami Dolphins, NFL football
team, and their stadium for $168 Million. In 2009, he sold the
team without winning a Superbowl trophy during his ownership.
During1968 in Pompano Beach, Florida, Huizenga started a waste hauling business with a single garbage truck. By 1983, Waste Management was the largest U.S. garbage collector after acquiring
133 smaller companies.
In 1984, Huizenga formed Blockbuster Video Corporation which became the
leading movie rental chain after nine years of expansion.
