Capcom finally showcased Resident Evil Village‘s long-awaited “Shadows of Rose” Dlc, and an early look at one of that expansion’s horrifying new enemies already has some fans wishing Capcom had kept the new content under wraps for a little while longer.
For those who don’t know, Shadows of Rose picks up about 16 years after the main events of Resident Evil Village‘s campaign. It stars an older version of Rose Winters (who looks about the same as she did during Village‘s epilogue) on her journey into the terrifying realm of the Megamycete. In an interesting twist, Rose enters that realm equipped with only a handgun, a pocket full of ammo, and a few healing items. While Rose also happens to be able to utilize some of those devastating telekinetic-like abilities that were hinted at in Village, it still seems that Shadows of Rose will emphasize the...

In an interview with Weekly Famitsu Magazine (as translated by Resident Evil researcher Alex Aniel) Capcom producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano reveal new information about Resident Evil Village‘s enemies, story, and setting.
The interview doesn’t give away a lot of details we didn’t already know or suspected to be true, but it does feature a few interesting pieces of information for what has thus far been a very mysterious project. That’s especially true of Chris Redfield who was mentioned far more often in this interview than he’s been talked about in any of the official descriptions of Resident Evil Village that we’ve seen in the past.
For instance, Capcom confirms that the figure we see in Resident Evil Village is, in fact, Chris Redfield. Fans previously suspected that the Redfield featured in the game’s debut trailer could be an imposter given his...

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Resident Evil Village, besides the titular setting itself, is the apparent shift from heroism to outright villainy exhibited by Chris Redfield who, up until now, of course, has been fighting the good fight against bioterrorism. With the dismantling of Umbrella and defeat of Albert Wesker just two of many awe-inspiring feats rightfully listed on his résumé, to consider Chris one of the bad guys prior to Village‘s official reveal earlier this year would have been considered borderline blasphemous among fans of the series.
Yet here we are, presented with another redesigned Chris who, within moments of appearing on screen has one of his henchmen put a bullet right between the eyes of a seemingly innocent woman. Having escaped alongside his estranged wife Mia at the conclusion of Resident Evil 7, the latter is ultimately revealed as the unfortunate recipient of Chris’ ‘gift’, with Ethan...

During a Tokyo Game Show presentation, Capcom producer Tsuyoshi Kanda noted that the team is looking into a way to bring Resident Evil Village to current-gen consoles as well as next-gen platforms.
“While Resident Evil Village is being developed specifically for next-generation consoles and PC, we’re looking into delivering the experience on Xbox One and PS4 as well,” Kanda says. “We’re looking into it, but we can’t make any promises. However, we will do our best in creating a top-tier survival horror experience on current generation consoles.”
This news comes as quite a shock. Not only was Resident Evil 8 revealed during a next-gen showcase, but there has been no indication that Capcom was even considering the possibility of bringing the game to current-gen platforms. While Kanda himself notes that a current-gen edition of the game is not a guarantee at this time, it’s highly unlikely that...

Besides the transition from third-person action to slow-burn first-person horror, another tradition that Capcom broke away from with Resident Evil 7 was the series’ otherwise unremarkable naming convention.
Despite being the seventh main installment, the survival horror sequel’s official title hides its numerical designation within the title itself and makes no mention of the fact in box art or other promotional material. As revealed last month during Sony’s PS5 showcase, then, Resident Evil 8 is set to follow in the same footsteps as its predecessor but does the Village name hold any importance beyond that of a stylistic title? The short answer is yes, but to what extent exactly remains unclear.
As part of a recent interview with Famitsu, RE8 producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Peter Fabiano were posed with the question of why the VIII numeral – incorporated into the Village subtitle – hasn’t led to Resident Evil 8 being the game’s official name,...

Capcom’s somewhat expected, thanks to numerous leaks, grand reveal of Resident Evil 8 last month during Sony’s big PlayStation 5 games blowout remains one of the presentation’s biggest talking points, and for good reason. Choppy frame rates aside, the long-awaited sequel’s rumored setting, characters, enemies and hauntingly gorgeous visuals have got fans chomping at the bit for any further details, though not until later this year, says the developer, will it be ready to share more.
In an effort to tide you over until then, however, RE8 producers Tsuyoshi Kanda and Pete Fabiano have teased a few new details in the latest issue of Famitsu. While the original transcript is in Japanese, Alex Aniel has been kind enough to translate the whole lot for folks over on Twitter. And below you can see a summary of the major talking points.

I didn’t know I wanted a “Resident Evil 2” remake. After spending almost an hour with it at this year’s E3, it’s one of my games of the show.
The thing that “Resident Evil 2 Remake’s” trailer doesn’t properly convey is the oppressive stress of the entire experience, at least with the demo that Capcom had on hand. When I first entered the police department, I was suspicious, but the lights were on, and there was ammo on the reception desk. But in an item-gated environment, where tools or keys are required to explore most areas of the current space, the only path open to me was accessed by … squeezing under a jammed metal emergency shutter into a darkened hallway.
If you’re already saying no thank you, then “Resident Evil 2 Remake” really won’t be for you.
The emergency lights were out, there was several inches...

Its existence wasn’t a surprise, but one of the dark horse candidates for E3’s best of show lists was unexpected – a tour-de-force, top-to-bottom remake of “Resident Evil 2,” one of the most beloved games of all time. Publisher/developer Capcom has gone back to the well with “Resident Evil” a number of times with various re-releases and remakes for games in the series, but something about this one seems special, particularly coming off the heels of 2017’s “Resident Evil 7,” seen as a return to form after “Resident Evil’s” image took a precipitous tumble toward the end of the last console generation. Variety had the chance to sit down with producers Yoshiaki Hirabayashi and Tsuyoshi Kanda about “Resident Evil 2’s” resurrection, its over-the-top gore, and why “Resident Evil” is a series that justifies so many remakes and remasters. This interview was conducted with the assistance of a translator and...
